Monthly forum poll 1) Which part of your game has most held you back most this year?

Morning all,
It's monthly poll time again, with two questions as usual, but it look as though I can only run one poll per thread on the new forum so will have to start two separate threads for now and then look into whether or not it's still possible to run two polls in one thread next month.
So, first up, as we reach the end of the main season, what has held you back most this year?

My tee shots predominantly with driver & woods , too many swing thoughts and a lack of confidence has really hindered me. When I get a decent one away I score well but too many errant ones cost me nigh on every round. Its something I am working on via lessons and practice but its going to be a bit of a long process I fear.

Not that I didn't know already but diving the ball into trees, rough, fields, lakes etc. do not work out well for the scorecard. I have been getting a bit straighter so I think my Pitching will be the thing for me next year.

Mixed between pitching & short irons , been driving well & long irons & putting are ok . not getting close enough (ie 6feet & closer) often enough from 140-75 yards,

The poll doesn't allow more than one choice unfortunately, can't see anyone only having one issue that held them back

Chipping for me.
I can be just off the green in 2 and end up with a 5 or 6 with no issues at all
But all the practice is starting to work and im starting to take the 6's out of the equation ;)

Definitly long approach play. Don't get chance to practice it much. Don't hit enough greens from 160 out.

Short game is what keeps the scores down.I practice this more than anything because A) I enjoy it, and B) I know it will help me get up and down when I miss the green with a long approach.

Pitching for me. Some time soon after the clocks went forward, I developed a semi shank when pitching from 80 yards in. Try as I might I couldn't shift it for more than a round or so.

I hit a reasonable ball and, at our place, that means I'd normally have 4 or 5 pitches to try and set up a birdie chance. Not this year.

I basically gave up and started bump and running everything in which from those kind of distances is a bit hit and hope.

Despite that affliction, I've dropped two shots this year but, with some accurate pitching, it could have been more. :(

Two things for me but only one is listed. I'll say driving but really I mean tee shots in general. This would be swiftly followed by course management. Bad tee shot + being a hero + poor shot selection = another medal card ruined :(

30-70 was killing me at the start of the year, not much practice and all qualifying rounds only have meant that it was/is a long hard process to get over them, havent done one in a while now but its amazing how the thought still lingers on. Still, 6 small cuts and a handful of 0.1s means the handicap still came down this year so cant complain. Definitely reinforcing my half wedges during the off season though.

For me it's been my "Driving". I haven't been consistent enough or hit enough fairways this season. My GolfShot stats price this with my average is 33% of fairways hit. Sometimes I may only be a couple yards off the fairway and it's rare that I am very wayward but I jut can't stand on the tee and aim straight down the middle incase of a pull or fade.

Another area not listed is GIR. I'd like to be hitting more than my current 50% average but I have been lucky that my short game and putting have been spot on for most of the year.

Average putts for the year is 1.9 per green. The occasional 3 putt crops up unfortunately

2 areas for me that need work are off the tee and approach shots. its getting far to common to waste great drives with poor approaches, or having to play great second shots from the cabbage. At the start of the year my driving was hot and i got a few cuts and medal wins, went to the r11, got wild and never recovered. dam that white stick!

Driving stands out to me as the weakest part of my game this year. I even resorted to playing the majority of the summer without my driver because it was that off-course. Why I can hit my 3 wood reasonably well yet I cant help but slice my driver I cant quite work out, I'm hoping my pro can over the winter, I personally think a lot of it is mental and im trying too hard not to slice it which is actually making it worse but cutting more and more across the ball

My Driving, is simply woeful, maybe 1 out 10 will go straight and long, when they do they are long 270 plus, but the other 9 tend to be really bad slices, high and 90 degrees right in most cases of not more than 200 yds. The result is stuck in deep rough, behind a tree or a lost ball.

Got to practice like crazy over the coming winter months at the driving range, perhaps a lesson or two as well to try an straighten out the kinks, quite literally.

Cheers
Dave
