Went to the range today, as I may be playing in a comp on Sunday, and need to find out if I can still hit a ball.

Got off to a bad start, as I clonked my finger on the boot lid getting my sticks out of the car. In retrospect, pulling all the stitches out this morning while bored at work may not have been the best idea.

Any way, went into the pro shop, and they have a bin of ex demo 6i, £4 each. As luck would have it, there was an MP52 6i, R300 shaft, 1/2" longer than standard, 2 degrees upright, similar to the spec on my Titleists. I could do with a club to keep in the boot for the odd practice session, and this seemed as good a deal as I am likely to get in the right spec.

So, to the range. Put my shoes on, jacket off, fleece on, mop blood off my coat, fleece, shoes, etc. Put my glove on, to limit the mess, and ready to go.

Grab the mizzy, a couple of practice swings, and rapidly work out that I can't hold the club with my normal grip. No chance. Have to change to some weird version of over lapping (normally base ball). More practice swings to get used to the new grip. Then line up a ball.

Well, all things considered, not bad. When middled, it goes ok, feels fine, and I can shank it nearly as well as the Titleist ZB(which has set a vcery high standard, as I can get distance and height, the holy grail of shanking).

Not sure what all the hype is about Mizuno, as to me, when middled, there is no discernable difference between the MP52, and my ZBs. I like it alot, but it isn't really any great improvement, which is handy, because I guess I'm not going to be able to complete the set at £4 a club.

Might be different off grass. And with a proper grip.

And we won't talk about my driving. No. Not at all.

I have a set and think they are superb, but they did replace a set of old burner graphite irons, so anything had to be an improvement. :D :D

I was torn between the mp52 and mx300,so I bought two 6 irons of both clubs, after using both irons on the DR the
mx300 suited me better. To cut a long story short I,ve bought
a set of mx300 today and weather permitting will get a game
this weekend.

I think Mizzy make nice clubs, and would definitely look at them next time I change, but after some of the waffle I've read on here (and GolfWRX) about feel, I was expecting an epiphany, and didn't get one. Disappointed? May be.

You've got ZBs and you tried an MP52, and there was no epiphany?

I'm not surprised. :)

It'd be like me borrowing a Sony Bravia, bringing it home and saying "what's all the fuss, it's no better than my Panasonic Viera"...well, it's not, but you know what I mean.

Nothing would part me from my Titleist CB's............luv em.

Mind you, having not hit them for at least 10weeks, I'm getting a bit concerned, they might bite me back when I do !

Not sure it is wholly fair to make a true comparison when clearly you aren't swinging great and have an improvised grip. I prefer the new MP53 anyway but was more attracted to the JPX800 Pro than anything which certainly had a firmer feel than the MP series

During my Mizzy fitting I tried the 52's, 300's, 58's, 62's and 68's.
The only ones that didn't feel - well, right I guess - were the 52's. They just felt strange. Don't know why but they didn't work for me.

Interesting, I read somewhere the other day that it was a “modern classic”.
