I hit my 3 wood better both off the tee and from the fairway in comparison to my Driver.
Technique aside, I wonder whether I would be better trying a Mini Driver solely for off the tee.
Apart from the obvious try one, has anyone else tried this route or know of any experiences

If you think of a mini driver as 2 wood it would be slightly easier to hit due to more loft and a shorter shaft.

You could also consider a less lofted 3 wood.

The mini driver may have a bigger head than the 3 and also a higher centre of gravity as it is designed for hitting off a tee rather than off the deck.

When I started back playing, about 10-12 years ago, I really struggled with the driver - slicing it like a knife through butter! I got a TM mini driver and used it for about 2 years whilst learning how to hit the driver. Worked well for me.

Didn't work for me.
I had a Taylormade Aeroburner mini driver.
I could hit a normal 3 wood just as far & accurately of the tee as I could the mini driver.

Off the deck?
3 wood, no problem
Mini driver? Unless it was sat up, no chance.
A mini driver wasn't versatile enough for me.
Sold mine.

Same, but held onto it. Dunno why really.

If I had room, I'd have it in the bag as an alternative driving club, but struggled off the deck. I currently don't carry a 3 wood at all, so my only non driver tee option is a 5 wood, but that works for me and `I can hit that off the deck well.

I had a Titleist driver fitting at the club yesterday, and asked about the mini driver towards the end.
Fitter told me that I'd spin it too much off the tee for it to make any improvement on my Ping g425 SFT.
It might have worked off the fairway, but what's the point if I've got a 3 wood.
I also hit the Brnr in the US, and got no gain in distance or dispersion.
They work for some people, but not for me.

Thanks for that, was thinking about it but reading about you spinning too much I have an issue meaning I spin too much so good to know it's a non starter

No idea. My old man had a wooden 2 wood in his set that I borrowed when I got into golf. Watched him hit it and it was a beast and he had it on a proverbial frozen rope

I have a callaway deuce in my porch that a mate just dumped with me .. wonder how it goes lol 🤣

They’re a club that will work well for a few people but not the majority.
The whole point of a 460 cc head is that it is forgiving. Get fitted a forgiving driver, consider a slightly shorter shaft, and I don’t see the point of a mini driver. Unless you are on a short, very tight course.

I had the mini brnr out today and it was impossible to miss a fairway , even with an off swing day. No back to back comparisons, it’s defo longer than my 3w and runs for miles as the flight was a great deal flatter than my driver.

More testing required but I really want to put it in to play. I can drop my hybrid but not sure if there’s a gain …….. yet.

Love my mini, it replaces my driver and I can handle the slight loss in distance for more fairways hit. I don’t use it off the deck although I have tried it for fun a few times with mixed results 🤣

What’s the difference in terms of ease of hitting off the tee, in your Mini vs a 3W?

Thanks @Beezerk

Mini driver is just marketing baloney. They are just 3 woods with a different name. Because us golfers don’t replace our 3 woods very often (mine is a 910 that is 14 years old) the manufacturers have come up with a new name to tempt us to part with our cash. The gullible among us will succumb.

Exactly the same - apart from the loft, size……….
