Firstly a huge thanks to everyone who made the effort to attend the latest Scottish GM outing. It really is a credit to this forum and the game of golf that Steve Kemlo, Paul Mullan & Bobby White travelled from Dundee on the east coast to Largs on the west coast of Scotland. Likewise a huge thanks to the effort of the Fife boys, Alan Russell, Iain Preston and Mike Buchanan. Your commitment did not go unnoticed.
The day got off to a jovial start with Steve Kemlo suffering a hernia and two slipped disks in his back when he foolishly left his golf bag unattended. A quick trip to the beach by a quick thinking genius resulted in a rather large rock being selected and then hidden under his waterproofs in the main compartment of his porn star JL golf bag.
(I wouldn't ken who was responsible!!! )
The photo really doesn't do it justice at all!!!
Anyway, thankfully everyone made the 1115 boat, some cutting it finer than others but we were quickly travelling overseas and onto the Isle of Cumbrae where the bus laid on by Millport Golf Club soon had us on the first tee bang on time. A quick meal selection and onto the course. I had the genuine pleasure of Iain Grey and Ali Wright in my game and I couldn't have asked for two better playing partners. A steady par, double, par, double start was to prove rather costly however I soon settled down and had 13 pars, 4 doubles and a birdie! Not great but getting back to my steady golf.
Iain Grey on the other hand played some very steady golf and I was surprised his points total did not reflect his play. A new Cleveland driver and new set of Ping irons are certainly making a difference to his game. Ali had flashes of good golf but his 4 games of golf this year also showed at times.
The course despite some very heavy overnight rain was in good condition with the greens running true and in good condition. Possibly a little slow for some but overall very nice. Millport is not long but its no push over either with some tough holes where position helps. The rough was also penal, especially if you found the heather.
Iain Grey on the 3rd tee.
Iain Grey on the 6th fairway. Nice boat,
Ali Wright showing how jammy he was to avoid the hazard. Dam fine recovery though.
A general view from the 7th tee with the clubhouse and Arran in the background.
Steve Kemlo nailing one onto the 7th green.
Ali Wright holing out on the 8th.
Iain Preston tees off on the 9th watched by Raymond (Bunkers) and Fabian (Farneyman).
Bobby White pitching onto the 9th green.
Iain Grey on the 14th tee with Bute in the background.
Iain Preston on the 13th tee with Bunkers and Farneyman.
Fabian demonstrating how to swing in a phone box!
Bunkers showing Fabian a REAL golf swing!
Bunkers in a bunker!!!!
The scoring was pretty decent however ladies and gentlemen of the forum, I know this will be hard to believe, but yes its true! We now officially have a rival to Del the shark B! Step up forum member AMcC, aka, Alan McCaw who would have given Dick Turpin a run for his money. A fantastic 40 point stableford total was good enough for a 5 point stroll to victory. Outstanding golf Alan, great shooting.
Granters (Grant McKay) stumbled into second place with an extremely dodgy handicap of 10 which allowed him to amass 35 points and the theft of second place! Stewards enquiry should have been saught at the time.
Third place was split by thecraw and bunkers who had 34 points. Third outright was claimed by thecraw thanks to a better back nine. Nicky Beattie and Scott Aikman made up the top 5.
A big thank you and a warm welcome to forum debutants Bigslice (Alan Munn) Scott Aikman (Scott1505) Grant McKay (Granters) and Crawford McKay (inthecup)I hope you enjoyed it. I know Crawford did as the big bazza nicked my trip to St Andrews off of me with a jammy fluked wedge to 4 feet at the last to beat my nearest the pin effort of 9 feet!
A nice meal after the golf and Darren Clarke on the telly showing off his new jug made the day very memorable, especially for Fabian who even changed out of his girly pink shirt into a green Irish Callaway "look at me I'm Irish" shirt to show his support of the new Brittish winner!!!
Also can I throw in another thanks to Paul Mullan for hosting a round to celebrate his Darren Clark £10 e/w bet at 125-1!
Sadly it was time to head however a trip to Millport will never be complete without the "boys will be boys" lets try and hit the ferry with golf balls trick.
Exclusive photo of Steve Kemlo with a Titleist driver in hand!!!!!!
Paul happily hitting brand new Pro V1's away knowing of his bookies winnings in the bank!
Waiting on the ferry thats dodging golf balls!
Thanks again to everyone who attended.
