Lovely lunch was had in my MiLs care home…staff were brilliant and the food was excellent…full three course Christmas Dinner no less.
Was sat at a long table with Mrs SILH along with the wife of one of the residents; and 12 residents - one being my MiL of course. And the aggregate of the ages of the residents at the table?…approx 1150 yrs…including two centenarians…lots of Christmases past for our table
MiL got very upset and tearful at one point remembering that her son Dave wasn’t with us…given he passed away early October. But one of the carers spotted her tears and came over to crouch beside her…give her hugs and words of comfort for a few minutes.
And when the desserts were on the go one of the carers appeared with a big bag of presents…she’d organised a collection from the regulars and others at her local pub in a nearby village to a buy a present for every resident in the home…and there’s about 70 residents all told. How generous is that. And a nice touch…each and every present was personalised - labelled to a resident with the name(s) of one or two whose contribution paid for the present.
It was very difficult at times for my wife…when remembering that her brother had been with us last Christmas and until just a few months ago….but the care and understanding of all the staff (all who knew of our loss) helped hugely.
Love, caring, giving and kindness…at the heart of what Christmas is about.
