I've played it a few times, it's worth a trip. The main course can get a bit wet underfoot in patches, not played the 9 holer but it's supposed to be a proper course.
It may be worth finding a pub off site as being a hotel beers are pricey !

Yes the beers cost around £4.50 at the Marriott near me. We have paid £130 for two rounds, B&B and Dinner. I think the plan is to go out in Southampton or Portsmouth for beers Saturday night.

That will be a large taxi fee going either. I'd recommend getting to Botley train station. Train to Portsmouth from there. No direct one to Southampton. You would have to go to Eastleigh and change for Southampton.

Thanks I will let the organiser know. We have hired a fun bus to take us from Kent but I'm not sure if one of the group are driving it or if the bus will be sticking around. 2am taxi back to the hotels not going to be cheap then.......

If in Southampton use this number 02380 666666, they can't charge you the 20% boundary charge for leaving the City limits.

They can if you hail one in the street! However no pre-booked vehicle can charge a boundary fee, hackney or PH.
A cab from there will cost you about £20 into Southampton, might be worth having a word with the hotel though as they may well have a deal with a local cab firm. I'm a cab driver in Southampton myself so if you want to know anything else ask away.

Just spent last weekend at the Meon Valley course. Very wet but no more than any other parkland course at the moment. Played the main course twice and the Valley 9 hole course once.
Both were very decent although clearly the weather meant that we didn't get to see them at their best. The 18 hole course had 3 temporary greens which although understandable still spoils the hole completely. There are some very good holes though and we plan to return in the spring or summer to play the course at its best.
The hotel was very good and the staff excellent especially a young German waitress who was a fantastic asset to our party. The only downer was the wine by glass was £5.75!!! A pint was £3.80. Food was superb.

If you do just watch out as one of their drivers who picked me up from the cruise terminal and took me back to my car at the hotel, didn't set his meter and tried to overcharge me!

Ok, ring Radio Taxis (02380 666666) and explain how many of you there are and that you need getting too and from SOuthampton, they will probably sort you out a fixed price, or there are a couple of minibus companies in the area that are worth a try, but like I said have a word with the hotel first as I'm pretty sure they have a preferred local company who will do you a decent rate.
