Any members on here? (am sure I spoke to one recently).

If so, how do you find it as a club to be a member of? How busy does it get with guests etc? Are you happy as a member - what don't you like? Does it get wet in winter? Are comps drawn? etc etc

Played there today and sort of tempted to join, played the Roseberry, pleasant track and in nice nick, going to try and play the Rothschild week after next.

Having 2 courses appeals to me as tend to get a little bored at mine, downsides being the extra costs and travel time, and practise facilities seem a little limited.

Interested to hear any members thoughts

Played there a few times down the years Steve and I have an aquaintance who's a member. He seems to like it.

2 decent courses to choose from - and it is only 5 minutes on from AVGC so it shouldn't make too much difference.

It does seem to have an air of superiority surrounding it - not saying there is one but it seems like it.......

How much are you talking..?

ITs not cheap but arguably not as bad as I expected. If theres 2 of you joining then its £120 per month (£160 if on your own) so just under £1500 a year, theres also a £750 join fee though I got the feeling that could be "discussed" if serious about joining.

In effect its double what I pay currently at AVGC, arguable whether its worth it or not I guess

there must be a few others locally to consider aswell? Dunstable downs isnt far and supposed to be decent, fancy a round there myself as gf lives down the road :)

wasnt planning on moving Gibbo, but tempted having been there today. Dunstable downs is ok, but a far worse journey from mine, mk way options are more limited. I expect I will stay put, at least for now but may be swayed you never know

was the groupon we were there on today. quicks heads up, when you check in they give you another voucher to come back again, not as cheap as the original groupon deal but still decent enough, gives you a chance to play both courses that way

ps if anyone is one short for their groupon deal you know where i am hehe

Hi I am member at mentmore at the moment and honestly I guarantee you won't be disappointed with joining the club!

I know the money can seem like quite a lot but when you look at the whole picture for how much you actually get for your money it is fantastic! There are mens competitions virtually every week and this is a great way to integrate yourself with other club members. You can get the odd 'snobby' member but on the whole members will welcome you with open arms. The clubhouse and facilities are top notch, the courses are awesome (we have just had a few new green keepers recruited as well as some new green rolling machines which have added to the quality of the courses!)

Admitedly our range isn't brilliant but if I am after a good range session I just go after about 4pm as it is usually pretty empty and we have just had 10 new mats put in which are pretty decent. I don't know if you used the putting green but I it is kept pretty nicely and I have never had or heard of any complaints about it.

The main reason I joined was because I of the two courses and I am glad I did because they are both so different and provide a pretty good challenge so I don't get bored.

If you got any more questions about it or even want to play a round there I can get you in half price :whoo:

Thanks Jack, seems a decent enough summary from what I saw earlier. Putting green is definitely decent, the range and chipping green a bit of a let down, I assume there is no other short game practise area?

Will use the voucher to play the other course week after next, may pick your brains again after that :)

Yeah I can't really defend the short game facilities but I hit most of my chips and pitches on the practice green anyway and sometimes use the excuse of a bunker on the range but if I am desperate to practice short game I will just go out on the course late one evening and pick a hole and spend a while hitting shots from all around it.

Hope you enjoy your second round, tip for the first : Do not go right off the first tee ! trust me !

Dave and I looked at it before we joined AVGC. At that time if they had waved the joining fee we would have joined.

Do you get gym membership and golf membership for the £120?

Dave called my Mrs the other day and begged her to let me join Mentmore as his garden back onto one of the holes. Why does he need another course to not play any golf on?:D

It's more money than I want to spend but I would love to join!!!

Technically meant to be off yellows but doesn't matter it isn't really enforced, yeah they tend to be quite a big difference especially on the par 5's, in the summer the blues will be on the back tee box in front of the whites, it's mainly so they can preserve the back teeboxes at the moment

Is it still in the clubhaus group, where you can play the other courses for free. One of the 18 is the easiest course I've ever played. Nice though.
