Memory foam matresses.

Yes they are great for your back but a nightmare in the heat we had a look on line to see if there was anything that helps, all we found was a the use of a waterproof matress protector may help and it does help a little

Had one since November and wouldnt go back to a normal sprung mattress.

Dont find it any "sweatier" than any other mattress ive ever slept on and it really is the most comfortable sleep ever, especially combined with a good memory foam pillow.

If you thinking of getting one spend as much as you can on it as I think it really is a case of you get what you pay for with them.

Ours is full memory foam and as I say I get a much better sleep now than I ever have and no sore back anymore since we got it.

Spring and foam here.

Loads of comfort, no excess sweating from us.

Some of the cheaper brands are just foam, whereas the better brands like Kaymed have a breathable membrane to make them more comfortable - which may not work for everyone, but it makes it spot on for me.

I sleep on a bed of nails or a blow-up mattress mostly.

I'm afraid of comfort.

odd this should come up, I've just been reading the review of best buys mattresses in which?

Spring and foam in our house too.

HID loves it, says it's the most comfortable bed she's ever slept in. I bloody hate it. Like many have already stated, I often wake in the middle of the night wet through with sweat. They are just too hot for me. Apparently your body heat goes into the mattress and is released back as you sleep.
HID is constantly washing the quilt cover and pillow cases as my case and side of the quilt end up smelling like a Bengal sweat shop.

You may not get an aching back in the morning, but I don't think they are too healthy!

Come on then, summarise for us then. Is this a known problem with memory foam mattresses?

If you buy a cheap one you will be lying directly on the foam. However, not all expensive ones have the breathable layer.

The thing to do that very few people bother with is to lie on one in the shop with just a teeshirt on ( trousers may be an optional extra ). The idea is that if you have cotton sheets, wear a cotton teeshirt.

Then lie on it for half an hour or so. By then you'll have a good idea of whether you like it or not.

;)

got suckered into a blanket trip in Spain last year - the one where they tout the merino wool bedding for only £1500.

supposed to be the bees knees - warmest/coolest/softest/firmest
