Memorable Moments

Like others, for me it would have to be Faldo's hunting down of Greg Norman in the Masters. What a game.
You can just imagine the turmoil that Greg must have been going through, knowing that he was playing one of the best golfers in the world at the time and his game had deserted him. He couldn't do anything about it. Everything he tried went tits up.
I feel sorry for Norman, but really pleased that Faldo won it.

Mine is best told by someone else, but its at The final round of the 1993 European Masters at Crans-sur-Sierre, Switzerland 18th.

"After ignoring caddie Billy Foster's advice to chip out sideways, Seve lays the face of his sand wedge wide open and sends the ball almost vertically up over the wall, but beneath the tree limbs. Amazingly, given how close he is to the wall, the ball makes it to the edge of the green from where he chips in for a birdie. Asked why he took on such a dangerous shot instead of chipping out safely, Seve replies: "I just like to keep going forward." His birdie isn't quite enough, however, as Lane wins by a stroke. But the tournament will forever be remembered for another bit of Ballesteros brilliance."

Pure greatness Seve created.

My initial thoughts were Faldos relentless hounding of Norman and also Tigers chip in on the 16th at Augusta and mad fist pumping celebration afterwards.

Another one that comes to mind was Azingers chip in from the bunker at the Belfry RC and his subsequent high fives with his caddie ( his caddie really didnt want to keep high fiving after Zingers first one nearly ripped his hand off )

Tigers iron shot at the last to about 2 ft at some WGC event played in near darkness , spectacular

Has to be Sandy Lyle's 7 iron out of the bunker in the 1988 Masters. Also Van der Velde at Carnoustie in 1999 I have never felt so bad for any golfer and it seemed to go on and on for ages.

Wow what a thread my head is now swimming with such memories,

One of my fav's was the 85 ryder cup we just destroyed the Usa in the singles, I was watchng on TV and almost every bit of footage was a european snakeing a putt or knocking the pin out, and then big Sam with two putts for the Ryder cup holes his putt magic. IMO still the best RC.

I also loved Seve's perfomance Rd4 88 open he just didn't put a foot wrong, pure class all day absolute golfing perfection and that chip on the last, amazing pure Seve.

Yes freddielong so many great moments. Of course over the years you start to forget some of them and yes it is great that people on here remind you of them.
just a couple of more, Weirs putting performance when he won the Masters (what year?)and Shaun Michells (might have the wrong name/spelling) iron to the 18th pin on the 72nd hole of a recent PGA.

But isn't live sport such a wonderful thing, if you are like me you will watch almost any sport your memories are overloaded with such things.
I can not say how many times I have said to the good lady wife, you cant beat live sport. Of course you have to watch some rubbish, but when you get something special it truely is fantastic.

having been only golfing for a couple of years, I've only watched a few tournaments.
And the only shot that stands out to me which made my jaw drop was Y.E. Yangs rescue club to the 18th.
Round the tree over the hill dropping over the bunker to a pin that's tucked hard left onto the green.
I could never have handled the pressure never mind firing a shot that good.

not really a moment of greatness, more like that they can sometimes be as bad us us.

couple years ago Robert Karlson Sh*nking it into a water hazard .

I suppose the Masters has created more memories for me. In no order:

1) Scott Hoch's miss in the 1st payoff hole with Faldo in his first Masters win.
2) Woosie's last putt to win.
3) Sandy's bunker shot and putt.

Other than that, the final day of the 1995 Ryder Cup was totally awesome. Faldo's up and down to beat Strange, and Philip Walton hanging on for a vital par at the last and victory....amazing!

Finally, Monty's duff 7 iron at the last hole of the US Open a few years back - as much as am ambivilant toward the guy, I really felt for him when one good swing would have won him a major.

Blimey - how do you narrow this down to one moment??

Faldo's 500 yard putt to win his first masters in near darkness..
Scott Hoch's missed putt which allowed Faldo to win on the next hole..
Ray Floyd finding water with his approach that allowed Faldo to win..
John Daly's USPGA win - a no-one who was on the reserve list and only played because of Azinger's withdrawal due to shoulder cancer..
Kiawah 91..
Langer's missed putt in the Ryder Cup..
Faldo's open win
Woosnam's masters win. How he played that 18th was genius!!
Lyle's masters win. Every golfer strives to hit a bunker shot like his once in their life.
Rocco's putt at St Andrews..
Watching Lowry win the Irish open this year and subsequently get mobbed by McIllroy et al..
Most of Woods' golf over the years.
Watching Monty get all annoyed with himself (pretty much every tournament then..)..
Clarke on the 18th in 2006 (Ryder Cup)..

I can think of loads but I've not a hope in hell of finding just one..

After all the hype and expectations, I really enjoyed the first tee shot hit on the first hole in the first match on the first day of the Ryder Cup at the K Club.
