Me dads seen satchmo play.

The site I have found showed deep purple playing the 15th May 1974, but the Quo are only down as playing May 1975, the site must be a bit iffy as me old man is adamant he saw Ella at Belle Vue, but she is down as playing at the Free trade hall.

Back to Belle Vue and slightly off topic, me mum said she took us four kids there once. I got lost and she found me walking under Nellie the elephant. Honest, she said the guy in charge of the elephant nearly had a heart attack.

That explains a lot Andy!!!

There used to be a venue in Edinburgh, The Odeon, normally a cinema, but used as a venue for various concerts over the years. The 70s & early 80s were a lively period and almost all the 'big names' played there at one time or other. What was amazing was the cost of a ticket, £2:00-£3:50 was quite a normal ticket price for the likes of Wings, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Bay City Rollers, Rod Stewart & the Faces, The Police, Roxy Music, Gerry Rafferty (supported by Dire Straits) for all of £2:50, Blondie, A W B (£3:00 must have been popular) and many others graced this venue. Turning the cinema into a multi screen venue killed the live music dead in it's tracks.

Nowadays you won't get much change out of £100 for a single seat at the SECC Hydro in Glasgow.

Likewise The Apollo in Glasgow. Though that had long since ceased operation as a cinema when it was used as a venue. But it was cheap.

My dad apparently saw Homer when he was a good golfer. :D

With your warped view on life Chris, it had to be The Mindbenders :D

10/10/1967 at the ABC and, no, I wasn't there. I'm far too young ...........

Actually I've been on that stage a few times playing bass guitar (before I became famous )

It was the Mindbenders Roger, without Wayne Fontana and not the Spencer Davis Band

It's alright to be confused at your time of life Chris. As I'm sure you know, Steve Winwood left the SD band earlier that year to join Traffic.

I first came across Winwood when he sang "Georgia" on Saturday Club in the early/mid 60's. You would have been hard pressed to spot the difference between him and Ray Charles.
