Not being too familiar with how the RC goes about picking players, why has Martin Laird been overlooked and hardly even mentioned? Is it because he plays in the states and not on the Euro Tour. :D

Don't think he's a member of the European Tour. I think you have to play a certain number of events (13?) to get membership.

His accent is more confusing than Graeme McDowells!

Seems the selcetion criteria is more about being forced to play on the European Tour than actually being European!

I can't agree. We now have the world points list that allows those who don't comepte in Europe to make the team. In days of yore, those players were solely relying on a pick to get in.

Martin Laird could have played for Europe in the Ryder Cup as he is an associate member of the European Tour. However the world points he got for winning a US tour event and the end of last year did not count as he was not an associate member at the time. All he had to do was pay 4 grand to buy his associate membership but he said at the time of the win that he did not have the spare cash. He paid for his membership straight after. He finished in 62nd place on the World points list and 104th on the Euro List. Think this has more to do with why he was overlooked
