Mar Hall - thinking of joining

Not 100% yet, but will decide after I play Mar hall over the weekend, but I would like to play during the winter months as well and Largs always seems to be playable.

Largs is playable all year round and the greens are always good.
Not played Mar hall myself heard its ok.
Golf on a sunday morning is a nightmare imo. Busy and people trying to run round the course.
Heard erskines really good. How about gourock?? Not too hilly

Gourock in the winter? lol Clay based and doesn't drain well at all. Plus mats for almost 6 months.

Gourock is a 4 month course at best, shame as its a great layout and has views to die for.

Mar hall has a good layout and greens were good, but the fairways were very poor 2 years ago. And at £ 4.60 for a VERY small bottle of Peroni in the hotel far too dear for me, but seemingly theres a cheaper bar nearby.
Stevie R. stays around that area he might have more info [ if he's still on here ]

I am a member at Erskine, played Mar Hall 3-4 times it is a nice course but on all occasions found the course to be slow, sometimes taking up to 5 hours for a four ball.

At Erskine I have been a member for 3 years & is rarely closed In the winter from November / December to start of March you play off the mats.

If you want to compare Erskine with your other choices let me know & I take you round Erskine.

Played there a couple of years ago. Some nice holes and course is well maintained but there were no standout holes for me.

Played at Ferndown yesterday , same same same , how its rated above Parkstone and others is beyond me , Mar hall is the same as most on the HDIDO meet years ago said , drinks are expensive too

Thanks for the offer Stirry, playing Mar Hall in the morning so we will see how it goes, although the beer is expensive even after the discount that members have.

Yeah the thing with mar hall is it is part of a 5 star hotel, so beer & food will always be more expensive. Hope you your round at mar hall

Mar Hall is a great golf course, its just not a great golf club so I think you would miss out on the banter and competition side that most clubs have
