After a spell not playing due to a dodgy elbow, now looking to play on a more regular basis. Thinking of joining Mar Hall not the nearest course - that would be Greenock Golf Club but its a bit hilly for me. Is anyone a member of Mar Hall or does anyone have any thoughts.

I was working in Erskine for most of last year and though I didn't actually play Mar Hall I walked alongside the course a few times. Looks nice, seemed to be quiet too in the evenings and is mostly pretty flat along the river. Folk at work saw it as quite a good venue and had a golf day there. Erskine GC itself is supposed to be very nice too.

Thanks - looking to play in the evenings after work and at the weekends, need to play more but don't really want to be playing a hilly course too old and unfit for that.

Played there a couple of years ago. Some nice holes and course is well maintained but there were no standout holes for me.

Played it very recently, nice layout, long off the back tees, very much a 'resort course' with lots of visitors, excellent greens but fairways are poor. No idea the set up for comps etc for members, hope this helps.

Yes, thanks - they do have member comp and I believe set times when only members can play, will be finding out more at the weekend.

Hope you get all the info you need to make the right decision, although there is a lot of good courses in your catchment area, one being Largs for example. Keep us posted what you decide.

Largs every time. Far superior condition.

Lifestyle membership also. £300 a year with no joining fee.

I have looked at Largs and the Lifestyle membership - which is still a possibility but not the Lifestyle membership which looks much the same as the points system the Carrick uses. If I played one evening a week and a Sunday morning the points would be gone by August.

You can top up your points in £50 increments.

I can see the attraction but its 10-20 points to play in the evening and a Sunday morning is 30, I would be topping it up every week, if I was to jion Largs I think it would make more sense to take out the full membership.

Sorry bud, i was meaning joining as a full member, very good value considering what you would pay for some of the 'big clubs' close by. I agree about the lifestyle membership, good idea if you have limited time or just want summer golf.

Agree the price is ok, as I live in Greenock the two course are about the same distance away, just a matter of chronicling the right one.

Whats the damage at Marr Hall? If you want a game at Largs let me know, its simply in outstanding condition. Recent Pro Am had rave review, and Wentworth was second best :-)

I second that Andy, we played it the day after your Pro-am and got to play off the back tees thanks to the Captain, it was awesome condition, so much so that at least 5 of us are very seriously considering joining. Not meaning to hijack the thread, sorry.

Thanks for the offer Andy, I have played Largs a few times so know what I would be getting for my money, Mar Hall is a nice round four figures to join with a couple of hundred pounds of benefits thrown in to lessen the blow.
