Magpie Syndrome: now I understand

nowt wrong with being 28 for a while!!!!!

I am the same Tiger, recently had a right clearout and only thing I am not happy with in my bag is the wedges (the drivers a git, 3 wood is ok, irons I am umming and aahing over)

I think the trouble is being newish to golf, its too tempting to look at all the gear and think 'ooooh, if I buy that I know I am gonna play better'

a work colleague I played with the other weak had a skanky old carry bag, old irons, a big red driver and a pw/sw.... he went round the back 9 in +1 gross.

he isnt bothered with spin off his wedges, or whether his putter is the right length. He has got used to what he has got and plays very well with them off a 12 h/c

I am now going to resist new clubs and learn to use what I have, they arent too shabby anyway :)

I am a golfing magpie through and through. I always convince myself that I need something new. The only thing I have not changed inside my bag is my putter but that will be changed very soon.

I'm a golfing magpie. I love the lure of trying the new products just to see if they live up to the hype. Sadly a lot fail to make clubs for such an inept swing as mine so its probably a moot point. Putters use to be my weakness and I went through a phase of a new one every 9-12 months. That affliction has gone (although the new Ping Milled look tasty) and shoes are just be being a vain fashion wannbe!.

To be fair my TM TP's were in the bag a good while and the woods have been an integral part for about 3 years which is as long as I've had the wedges. I might do a lot of window shopping but buy remarkably little in terms of clubs

I'm definitely a magpie, and I love it!

My wedges are in great condition and definitely helped me win a couple of things this year, but a website, "MADEINJAPAN" got me all excited. Now I've got a Vega Sand Iron and a Yururi Lob Wedge. Any better than I had? probably not, but they look bloody brilliant.

Almost time for a new gap wedge........ :D

Tiger be a man. You just have to bear up at seeing your pretties tattered and bedraggled.
How do you think I felt when the very first time I used my 9-iron in anger, a stone left on the course by an obviously uncaring and irresponsible greenkeeper, bruised its sole, and my soul. And now yet another greenkeeper has been so remiss that the 8-iron too bears the scars in witness to his delinquency.

Be firm.

You can be very strange sometimes - hope it doesn't run in the family...

I couldn't help but fall in the love with the S3's when I saw them. They are beautiful.
But buying them has coincided with me playing the biggest load of crap for a good few months...

Played yesterday with three mates, 4BB, I couldn't do a thing right and my poor mate was left trying to fend off the opposition by himself.
We shook hands on the 14th as my partner and I got humped 5&4.
I proceeded to finish par, par, birdie par.
I keep kidding myself that there is life in the old dog yet
:(

I feed my magpie habit by buying ex-demo clubs, especially anything forged and shiney. Got quite a few Mizunos (MP30, 57, 60, 68, MX 23, 25, 300) just to hit on the range. Mostly cost £5 - £10. Also good for seeing what different shafts are like.

You are a tart!

That's how I felt about the Nike's I've ordered. I'm a danger to myself when I'm not skint
I'm just hoping your next sentence won't apply to me.

The putter's going nowhere, happy with my woods and hybrid, but I'm wondering now if I need new wedges :o

Are there any help groups available?

It takes all sorts, but the S3s that I saw at ag were pig ugly. Prefer your i15s, and that's not saying much.

I'm finding it hard to resist spending online at the moment. Everyone keeps offering deals (Direct Golf cards, 15% IJP discount etc). I am weak and HID keeps telling me to look for stuff she can buy me for Xmas. What am I to do?
