My pro promotes MacGregor gear. Not only that, he actually plays them as well. Way underrated and a superb iron in my opinion. I was almost tempted away from my R7s and I could be yet. TBH I don’t fancy some of the other Mac irons although the driver is up there with the best.

Don't like MacGregor stuff. Think it goes back to the 80's when they were supposedly one of the premia manufacturers and I didn't get on with any of their stuff then. Guess it has something to do with brand allegiance and having not liked them once I tend to pass them over today. Sadly though looking at some of their stuff in AG I don't see that changing although I'm sure it plays perfectly well

Oddly, since I have a set of Macgregor irons, I've never been a great fan. I think the newer stuff is better than the old.
I was after a set of good value clubs (after appreciating the difference between a set from 1990's compared to two models of Callaway that TonyN bought to the range), and it just happened that Direct Golf had some silly priced graphite shafted Macgregors.

I tried some brand new TM and Mizuno irons, plus some Adams and John Letters they were selling hard. I liked them all but the decider was after trying the Macgegors in the stiff YS design. It was an absolute revelation, and I LOVE these irons....everything about them feels "just right", the length, the flex, the softness (although I understand from here, that's not quite what it seems).

I have heard good stuff about the MT series, other than that, it's always about what suits.

If I went to buy a set tomorrow, I'd try Macgregor (whereas before I wouldn't) and all the other boys (though maybe not ping). I rarely read anything into previous "success" with specific makes although when it comes to Metal Woods, I always head straight for Callaway and Ping. I guess, a bit like my TM R5 ti 3 wood (bought untried online) sometimes you just get lucky.

My previous set was a set of MacG 1025M blades. Very clean and tidy, lovely clubs, if only I was good enough to still play with them.

Instead I am relegated to a set of Titleist ZBs.

Macgregor are hugely under rated as a manufacturer and they really do make some quality gear. Their irons in particular are superb in my opinion and I would not have to think twice about testing them when looking for a new set. I liked the Mactec 3 wood from last year as well. I haven't used any of the MT irons (would love to however) but used to use a set of VIP Tourneys (Still have them due to not wanting to throw them away) and they were great so these which presumably should be an advancement must be as well.
