LPGA Invite by Twitter Poll

I'm not sure this is relevant, every event, male and female, the sponsors are given a number of invites for their choosing, in theory every event has a person one place below the qualifying criteria.

But the invites for the scenarios you mention go to able golfers. If I Were said player who missed the cut and lost out due to a Lexi Thonpson or Ingbee Park or Michelle Wie having an invite I'd understand it. Their names are household in regards their sport. But if I lost to prettygolfer69 or legsntum95 because they look good in leggings. I'd feel more aggrieved that the qualifiers didn't just have an extra space.

It's clear that the poll has had the desired effect, as we are talking about a tournament that we wouldn't normally talk about. And it has highlighted women's golf for another week. Nothing wrong with them trying something different to get people interested in the woman's game.

Except it portrays it in a negative light and sends yet another subliminal message to girls that being pretty is more important than actually being accomplished at something.

Have you looked at any of the 4 and all their followers? It's not all old pervy men, it's kids, men and women of all ages.
Lee Westwood retweeted it to get support for Carly Booth, he has thousands of followers.
The girls themselves could of opted out, it was done on the top 4 most followers of those not playing, one dropped out, they haven't chosen the 4 they consider the prettiest.

Like I said I don't agree with it, but it's a bit late to stop it and only time will tell if it's a success.

But if they do it with players that most wouldn't know then they would get very few people interested. Yes they could have picked better people, but at least Carly Booth has won on the LET twice. The others could be better choices but then would most people know who they are. Blair would get know as she is on the golf channel and the big break.

They are all very much able golfers, have you never heard of any of them?

Tbf we're talking about it on a golf forum. I'd be surprised if even one person I know who's not into golf mentions it. Add to that, I'd estimate that less than 1% of us will watch said tournament.

To grow the game they need a new audience to be inspired. Middle aged men choosing who they'd kick out of bed last won't help that. No matter how many of us were to tune in.

Im all for new ideas. But they'd be better of opening it to anyone with a handicap to enter. Buy making it a poll it's purely gonna be based on their looks. Which isn't growing the game at all.

TBF one of the main reason that none of us will watch it is because we have no chance too. It will not be shown on sky or anything here in the UK.

Also if they open it to anyone with a handicap, people would then surely vote on looks, or their name. And not based on golfing ability as you wouldn't know any of the 4. I voted for Carly Booth as she can play the game and it would be good for her to get an opportunity to play with some better players.

Im not saying this is right, it certainly isnt, but if this weekends tournament and coverage was anything to go by they need to do something different!

Funereal pace of play, Christie Kerr being told by her caddie just to wait (when windy) when she had been stood over a shot for several minutes already and then go right back to the start of a hideously long routine, taking over 5 minutes to take a drop from some cables and make a simple putt from the back of the green etc. A play off to the same hole 6 times (with a really badly positioned hole which made 4 really tough and 5 really easy).

Sky tried hard to give it main billing over the mens pairs event but clearly lost interest as the play off dragged on and on and started to show more and more of the mens event that by the time the winning approach was hit sky werent showing it live!

Sky showed the LET event with the playoff between Nordqvist, Ciganda and Parker which again was a repeat of the 18th hole but the pace of play was excellent. Parker strolled up to her ball, yardage, club, pre shot routine and hit all in under 40 seconds. That was a good advert for ladies golf.

When they do it for a men's event I'll maybe see it in a different light from wherever I'm standing on hell's ice cap....

The reality is the mens tour doesn't need to do it to promote events. I'm not saying it is right but the ladies game needs to generate more publicity and this is an approach they are trying.

I'm voting for Carly booth because I follow her on social media since she does a lot of videos with Rick shiels and pete finch

Good sense of humour

wish Id watched that rather than the US one !!!!! Good to know its possible, Christie Kerr was an horrendous advert for ladies golf sadly, probably highlighted even more by how breezy her opponent was

We never seem to hear comments about keegan Bradley, Jason day, Kevin na etc being horrendous adverts for men's golf. Why is it just slow female players that are used to judge their entire gender?

That's not true Karen, every time any of those are mentioned its always about slow play. luckily Keegan Bradly appears to have disappeared since the banning of the belly putter

But NEVER as a bad advert for "men's" golf - that's my point. Slate Christie kerr's slow play all you like but don't link it to her gender please.

Well it is..........isn't it?? ;)

Sorry, I meant more that once opened to everyone it was simply a random draw.

That way there here wouldn't be a debate as to why they were picked.

Disagree.
Her "entire gender" is not being judged.

The specific "game within the game" that is women's golf is being referred to.

That is absolutely no different to when an amateur does well, the comments go along the lines of "a good advert for the amateur game" or similar. When a club pro does well at Wentworth in the PGA tournament, or in the USPGA tournament, they are always specified as PGA Club Pros, or "doing well for Club Pros" or similar.

The list goes on "a great advert for Asian players" or "just proves that you don't have to be big"... etc etc.

" Golf " is a the men's elite game that the masses see on TV, the rest of us fall into sub-sections.

Bit of a leap. I was discussing ladies golf as a product and its marketability (as thats what this gimmick is surely about), at no point was i "judging an entire gender"

And yes I make exactly the same comments about the slower players being a bad advert for the mens tour and bad for golf in general as I do about slow members at our club being bad for the club etc
