They are all very much able golfers, have you never heard of any of them?

Ive heard of 3 of them. But none of them for their golfing ability.

To be clear. I don't begrudge the girls attempts to garner fame. And if they were making a living as interviewers due to it, or working some other way now in media I'd say fair enough, they've shown some initiative and earned that.

But imo sport is meant to be competitive (whatever sport it is) and so your place in it should be based in your ability to play said sport. Nit how good you look doing so.

For me it just sends out the wrong message and whether it captures a new audience (imo it won't) or not. It won't be inspiring nay to actually play golf.

I voted for Carly Booth as she can play the game and it would be good for her to get an opportunity to play with some better players.

That girl makes the very best of her appearance at any opportunity and was playing with Sandy Lyle in the Pro Am at the Forest of Arden British Masters when she was 12 or 13 years old. She has had endless opportunities all her life, impressive golfer but probably not good enough.

Without being rude, you're missing the point, it's a sponsors invite place, sponsors will often invite a local Pro with a connection to the location or a Pro who hasn't earnt their space by right or is sponsored by them, so none of these invites are competitive, this is just another sponsor trying another way of gaining publicity, nobody is missing out, just imagine if the poll winner somehow won the event, the publicity alone would be worth millions.

Bit of a leap. I was discussing ladies golf as a product and its marketability (as thats what this gimmick is surely about), at no point was i "judging an entire gender"

And yes I make exactly the same comments about the slower players being a bad advert for the mens tour and bad for golf in general as I do about slow members at our club being bad for the club etc

I'll take your word for that but don't remember ever seeing anyone use the same phraseology about the "men's game".

I fully understand what is happening. But thanks for considering my feelings. Lol

A local pro getting an invite whilst not competitive is still someone who has earned their spot through golf. Not modelling. That is the point I'm making.

I accect sponsors want publicity and that this has gottn golfers talking about it. On a golf forum. Whether that transpires to anyone new is something I doubt.

But it I don't see it having any positive effect on viewing figures or future parcticipation.

Nit gonna keep going round in circles. I'm in the corner that it's the wrong message. Youre not. That's totally fine.

For the record, the men in my office (not me) prefer Sarah Stirk to Paige 🙂

It's not. "Golf" is a sport and the men's elite game is a sub section (to borrow your term) of that sport.

Id argue that whilst you may be correct in your terminology. Currently, most mainstream (financially successful) sports are still lead by the male participants/audience.

Im not saying they are better (men/women). But the product is, at that's what most people reference when discussing a chosen sport.

I'd say winning twice on the LET is good enough. Since when did winning on the second biggest tour in the women's game not become good enough?

I'm talking about common parlance.

"Did you watch the golf last night? " = the men's golf.
Anything else is clarified, eg" Did you watch the women's / seniors /Challenge Tour...... etc etc? "

She (Carly Booth) is the 6th longest hitter on the Ladies European Tour and after a bit of a rocky patch has made the cut in all the 3 events she has played this year, with a best finish of 8th. She has also won a non-sanctioned tournament. She probably made the mistake of taking the Nike shilling, which seemed to coincide with her dip in form after twice being a winner on the LET. I voted for her, but not surprisingly, the Golf Channel's Blair O'Neal seems to be in the lead. :(

No issue with anyone voting for her. I've met her, seen her play close up, she's impressive.
Just making the point she's had a life of opportunities, it's not like she desperately needs someone to give her her big chance.

There are not that many scheduled tournament on the LET, with not another one until mid June. I would like to see her get a chance to play on the LPGA tour, where there are more events and much more prize money.

No problem.
She has played on the LPGA tour, I just think that after all this time she would be a regular there already if she was good enough.

Same with any tour though, male or female. If you're good enough you'll earn a card, if not you don't. It's tough, especially for those down in the lower depths of the rankings but you either work harder, (and get a break or two) and stay on tour or you don't

I think that it's quite hard to transition from the LET to the LPGA tour, due to the way the ranking points work. Catriona Matthew, Charley Hull and Mel Reid only seem to have managed it by their performances in the LPGA sanctioned Majors.

I have posted I think it's wrong, but it's happening and apart from the Yank the others have made their name through Golf rather than modelling or TV all have major sponsors, I would suggest they're Golfers first and foremost.

The local pro getting an invite is more often than not simply to attract local people through publicity not his Golf.

I think I probably go along with that but it's this "common parlance" that I take issue with.

FD,
I bet if a man came on here whingeing and moaning, saying he'd patted it around "like a girl" all day, you'd be all over him like a rash. Yet if you write it it's OK.

If Tiger spits in the hole, he's a bad example for golf. If Lexi cheats, she's a bad example for women's golf. If a kid at the local club throws his club in front of people, he's a bad advert for the Juniors. If an old fart is rude to a lady or a junior, he's let the Seniors down.
If my old schoolmate off 16 who earns £80K bangs a club, people will laugh, if I do it on the next hole, I'm letting down pros.
It's all just how it is. No indignation will change that.
