I’ve never bothered before, but since investing more money on clubs recently and hitting a wayward drive into a car park, I fancy some extra peace of mind.

If a member of a club, those of us in England so part of EGU, are we not already covered when we play? If so, why have separate insurance? I used to have it then could not figure out the need so stopped.

EG only provides cover for public liability, bot theft of equipment. Though you dont need specialist insurance just add to your household contents insurance.

Seperate golf insurance is only about theft of clubs then? The rest is covered?

This was my thinking but as people keep getting it I wondered if I was missing something.

WE have third party liability insurance included as part of our Golf Club membership as well as being covered by England Golf.

For theft etc I use my house contents insurance provider.

I have it ATM until it runs out but does the home club insurance cover playing other courses

My understanding, very happy to be corrected on this which is part of my initial post, is that when you play at another course your green fee makes you a temporary member and so you are covered there. Equally, if you are a member of a club and pay your EGU fees, then you are covered by them wherever you play in the UK (I just double checked that)

https://www.englandgolf.org/article/club-resources-for-personal-liability-insurance/

'The cover is provided for members playing at any club in the UK. There is no excess in respect of personal injury claims, and just a £500 excess in respect of damage to third party property.'

I should add, I am not dismissing taking out your own cover. I am trying to find out if there is a benefit to it or are we actually already covered and so it is unnecessary.

Carrick-Neil for me as well.
Just using your home insurance might prove troublesome if you clubs were stolen from the back of you car when away somewhere.

Carrick Neil were brilliant and I got break in from my locker added for a few quid per year as I wasn't sure if I would be covered via the club if they had a break in and the lockers got forced. Added in any content as I put wallet phone etc in there when I play.
