At the moment i'm undecided on what set of irons to buy so on my way home from work i popped into the new AG store in liverpool just for a nosey, anyway after being asked a few times did i need any help i got talking to one of their "Professional advisors" so his badge said.

I told him i was undecided on what irons i wanted and what irons i was using and he told me that i had to change my irons as the torque on my shafts would've gone as they only last 2yrs??

I assume he was just talking shite so decided to walk out after that, i wonder how many people listen to these people and part with their hard earned cash.

Genius.
So your very well made Mizzy irons will only last you 2 years.
You should have done them under the trade descriptions act. Cheeky T***s

I know though i wasn't suprised at his response.

A mate who plays off 18 ish was told by an AG "expert" not to bother with custom fitting and suggested he go with Golder Bear irons - can only assume that this was there kick back club of the month?

Another example of AG customer service at its best and little wonder I have no time for them on here. The knowledge of a vast majority of their sales staff about anything technical or indeed golf related in a broader sense is negligible and if you are a newbie or unsure what you want I urge you to do some research before you go in and stick to your guns when it comes to deciding which clubs you want to try

You do realise of course that with all that buttery softness in their heads your Mizuno's will go off after a few weeks unless you keep them in the fridge. :D :D :D

I've never had a problem with AG. I went into one of their stores a few years back to buy a new driver. I explained I wasn't getting on with my current one. Whilst waiting to go into the net, the guy said lets see your swing. He gave me a little tip, told me to try it out with my old driver, and if it didn't work to come back and he'd sell me a new driver. They've been nothing but helpful whenever I've been there to buy clubs for me or my wife. Now Direct Golf on the other hand........

:D My last set of irons (Titleist DTRs) lasted me 20 years! :p

This seems to be an "English" thing on here as I can honestly say I've never in my life been steered towards anything Nicklaus or Wilson in any American Golf outlet up here.

I will say that anytime I've been in looking at clubs they have always been helpful and willingly let me try any models on the range. Not only that they have happily set up trackman for me and left me to pound balls, not hound me into a sale. Its the same with putters they are quite happy to allow you to putt away on their indoor putting green.

I'll buck the trend and say I have no issues with American Golf. They serve a purpose and for me are certainly more helpful than unhelpful.

Back to the OP, well ye, I'd say you did the right thing walking out after the BS about your shafts.

i think the danger with AG is that there is always a chance they are under pressure to hit sales targets.
it has been a while since i have used AG so this may have changed.

I find them really hard to spread though if I leave them in the fridge :D :D

They are under pressure to meet targets but as Nicklaus, Yonex, Wilson and Hogan are their biggest profit margins then it is inevitable that is where they steer the unsuspecting punter. Their sales targets are quite ferocious not only on the top end products but also things like the AG insurance etc.
