Hi everyone,

First time posting on here, nice to meet you all and happy new year to everyone.

I am looking for a good golf instructor in the Newcastle/Northumberland area, I have been moved to work down here Mon-Fri from now till June. So i cant use my normal golf coach.

I have been playing around 2 years and have a handicap of 16 with plenty of flaws to fix :D. I dont mind paying the extra for a good quality coach.

anyone have any recommendations??

Thanks
Anthony

Lad I play with went to Brian Ridley at Beamish Park Hotel recently, couldn't praise him enough.

Also......

John Harrison at Matfen hall
Andy Paisley at Hexham golf club
John McKenna at Tynemouth golf club
Steve McKenna at City of Newcastle golf club

Welcome to the forum, and the sunny North east

thanks for the advice guys.

I am working in Wallsend, so the Tynemouth one is nearest but I don't mind travelling for better quality lessons. Do you think its worthwhile making the trip to see Brian Ridley is around 17 miles from my location compared to 4.5 miles to John Mckenna.

Also which driving range would you recommend in the area like i said i am working in wallsend and staying at the quayside, so far I have used the Parklands one and Centurion park range??

Thanks
Anthony

John at Tynemouth has a great reputation and has coached the local county lads too

Driving ranges.....
Wallsend, local to you, decent, cheap, but balls there were terrible last time I was there
Parklands, good range, decent balls, plenty bays, can get very busy at times
Only others close to you are
Boldon, with on site american golf shop, decent range
George Washington golf club has 1 attached to it, haven't been for years so no idea what it's currently like..
Ramside hall Durham , bit further afield, but good driving range
Close house, nice range, never too busy, good balls, auto feed tees in bays

Brian Ridley teaches at a driving range in beamish area too

Just got back from there, to say the hotel and course are supposed to be kinda posh the range is a complete bag o' $hite! No lights as well apart from in the bays so you can't see where your ball goes on a dark evening.

Pro called Simon Robinson at Sharpley Golf Club, just down the A19 at Seaham, excellent coach and Sharpley has a very good range as well

yup, have to agree about the range, and I'm a member there, but it's not a posh place by any stretch of the imagination.

Yeah I heard some good things about him before, he is a little more awkward to get to though as he is the other side of tunnel. But again dont mind driving if he is worth the trip.

So its looking like picking one between Simon Robinson, Jeff McKenna and Brian Ridley.

I've used Brian Ridley for a couple lessons and to be honest can already feel my game coming on. Really happy with working with him. Explains everything also gives you a account on a website I can't remember name of it at moment but he puts notes in so you can look back for refreshment. 100% recommend him
Give me a shout if you fancy a game sometime

Cheers, I think I will go with Brian. I m always up for game. While it's dark nights can only really do Friday afternoons as I work mon-Thurs 8-5 then 8-12 on a Friday and travel home. If you ever fancy a knock on a Friday afternoon pop me a message. Just a heads up I m off 16 so golf might be up and down.
