Missis Ts department once won a department award at her local hospital. She was asked to write a piece about how her department deserved it. I was bloody livid. If you are nominated shouldn’t there a write up before hand.In the cops we got a long service medal after 22 years’ service. When I was contacted and told mine was due, and that I was being invited to an awards ceremony to receive said medal, I was also asked to write a few words of appreciation about myself. Yes, really.
I asked why the awards organiser couldn’t make the effort to contact one of the many supervisors I had worked with over the years to seek a short write up and never got any sort of response.
My take on all that was that if, after all those years, they couldn’t be bothered to find someone to pen a few lines about me, then I wasn’t going to do it myself. Absolutely ridiculous. So I didn’t bother going to collect it.
The medal arrived in a brown envelope. No note of thanks included. Just a medal. Couldn’t even tell you where it is now.
