I know it's some time away (July 10th) but watching the Barclays SO on TV last year I really fancied going up to see it live.
Has anyone been to it - was it a good experience?
and if we were going in that direction are there any courses suitable for more homely (less monied!) players like me and Mr. B?
Any thoughts on golf or accommodation appreciated.

Cheers

i'm also pretty interested in this event, decent field of players, quality course, and i've always enjoyed watching it on tv.the only thing i'd be worried about is the weather i think it's turned sour there some years.

I drove past the course yesterday and it looks incredible just now so come July it will be wonderful. I have been a couple of times and it is a very good spectator event with plenty of parking and not a bad run from Glasgow. If the sun is shining it looks like a tartan Augusta.

GO GO GO !!!!!!!!!!!!

I have gone for the last 4 or 5 years. had all weathers and it is still a wonderful day out. i am bias as i hail from the area before moving away. the course is great to just walk around, planning your route. even at the weekend it is not too busy that you cant get a good spot to pitch up and watch the action. it is a must go in my opinion

Did it 2 years ago, Ali, and it was brilliant. Mind you, we did get 80 degree heat that day. The course is a joy to wander round. Sorry, don't know the courses in the area. A wee tip. I bought tickets online and think I got a decent discount. Thinking of going down again this year, too, now that you remind me.

There are a few courses in the area.

Gleddoch House is not far off the track, very nice layout and getting a huge investment this year.

Helensburgh and Cardross are both decent as well, Vale of Leven is not too bad, but watch out for the snakes theres bloomin hunners of adders.

For a treat you could try The Carrick On Loch Lomond, costly but worth it, maturing into a nice golf course.
