This is the one Im most unsure about and felt uncomfortable with. Playing in a Q comp stableford a pp hits his drive sliced right into the trees high up. We walk down and can't find it anywhere. So, roughly where he think it went he drops just off the fw for free!!!??? i said to him at the time how do we know it's lost under a leaf it could be anywhere?

A few holes later im standing over a 2nd shot on a reachable par 5 and i think I let rip at this as worse case scenario with this rule if it goes into the trees I can just drop down there somewhere for free, near where it went and just say, oh it must be under those leafs. Although, i'm unsure of the rule I think If everyone else is taking advantage of the rule why should I miss out. But if its wrong I'd happily point it out.

They're 100% playing Q comps under these rules...I played in one but not played there since but in the whats app group a few Q stableford comps have been played and people have been cut under these rules.

The Committee may make a temporary Local Rule declaring accumulations of leaves through the green at certain holes to be ground under repair (see Definition of "Ground Under Repair") and Rule 25-1 will apply.

The Local Rule should be restricted to the hole(s) at which trouble with leaves occurs and it should be withdrawn as soon as conditions permit. Particular attention is drawn to the opening paragraph of Rule 25-1c; unless it is known or virtually certain that a ball that has not been found is in the leaves, it must be treated as lost elsewhere and Rule 27-1 applies.

Yep...that decision effectively clarifies that committees can declare accumulations of leaves as for collection and as such, GUR.

Short circuits the question of what constitutes an accumulation of course!

The LR at Hemsted could be better worded (not least how can you drop in relation to the position of a lost ball!)

Unlike the preferred lies anywhere OR, with a little care/rewording this one can be operated within a Q comp environment.

I didnt know about this ruling, very interesting and it could come in to play at our course as we have a serious problem with leaves on a few holes. We try to manage it by having the group ahead spot the balls for the people behind which sort of works when people remember!
