I have a real split personality with my 60 deg Lob Wedge:

I can quite happily and consistently hit full shots 65 yards into a green (which is great ! ) but anything less than that, especially the 30 yd or less lob-over-bunker-shot, and I struggle.

Does anyone else have a similar affliction ?

im the opposite lol - thin a good few shots from 60 yards - thats why i use my SW from longer distances. Good with it around the greens and out of bunkers though

I'm with Paul on this one, I rarely take it for full shots, or even 30/40yarder's, but from around the green, I find it great for those flop shots over bunkers etc.

My 60* is on fire again.

I was hitting it like a tool from everywhere until recently but had a lesson and loads of practice and all is well again.

Problems with short distance shots are usually quitting on the shot so said my pro.

My 58* is probably my most consistent club. Full shots, half shots, chips, pitches, lobs - they all seem to work more often than not. Deffo need to commit to the shot, play through the ball

My spin-milled 60* vokey is the nuts at the mo.

Played last thursday and it was a magic stick.

So much stop on the good greens.

My mate was amazed at how firmly I was hitting the shots that would then bounce, check and stop when without the spin, they would be 10yds long.

I have taken my 60 out and gone with the 52 and 58 combo (from 52, 56 and 60) as my short game is too inconsistant and having too many weapons muddies the waters. I can play all my bunker shots with the 58 and chip perfectly well over hazards with it. When the harder ground comes I think the 60 would be more of a liability still so I'm happy to stick with my set up unless I go to a links with deep bunkers or a course with penal greenside rough where a 60 is more useful

Recent got a 56 & 60 vokey and love both of them. 60 is good around the greens and deep bunkers and the 56 especially good for the 20-40 yard shot, second bounce and out comes the anchor.

Love my lob wedge from about 30-40 yards out and from greenside bunkers but really struggle getting more distance out of it. If I try to hit it 60-70 yards I tend to thin it.

Love my 60*, anything from 50 yards in is a thing of beauty. Yes you get the odd thinned one when I lift my head too early or grip to tight but other than that its great.

I'm the opposite, I can hit it full out but anything less than that and it all goes pear-shaped.

medwayjon's comment "Problems with short distance shots are usually quitting on the shot so said my pro. " may be the root cause of my problems. I hereby annouce that I will quit quitting on the shot !

Use mine for greenside bunkers, getting out of and over them. Just recently started using it from 30 yards out after a lot of practice. The 56 gets more used for general chipping and pitching. The 60 is too risky. Several times it's just slid straight under the ball and left the ball where it is. Not for rough for me, just the short grass.

I think the key thing here is to practice loads with the offending weapon!
It is a bit of a specialist club that many different types of shot can be played with, just needs a bit of practice that's all!

When i play a round with my boss (24hcp) he moans because he keeps duffing his 60/04 vokey spin milled!!! Too little bounce and too little practice (plays twice a month with no additional practice).

I took a load of old clubs and a bag to the charity shop two days ago...(£50+ worth)

There were two I just couldn't part with.

a 1994 (ish) Callaway big bertha 5 wood.
and
a 1998 (ish) Callaway tour series 60 degree wedge.

I take the 60 out now and again and have some fun with it.
Not quite as predictable as my 56 vokey.....regardless of shot.

I do think the 60* and above need to be practiced to gain confidence with. Last weekend I was in some rough with a wide bunker and slope at the back between me and the pin, I just gripped top of the club and opened up and with very light hands lobbed it over the bunker and the side spin hit the bank and rolled just past the hole, missed the putt like lol.

Andy, it is called a LOB wedge for a reason ..............

LOB IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lob wedge = Blob wedge

Blob wedge? - Lob it :)

Unless of course you have far too much time on your hands for the necessary practice for the one or two times that you might really think you need it during a round. Time far better spent honing more important skills methinks.
