"Like" function

So we now have a 'Like' function, often requested on the old forum software.

Question is, do you think it helps people with the understanding of what others post? Does it encourage a bit of male bonding or even 'bromance'?

Nope, it lets you know others agree without clogging up a topic with "I agree with xxx"

Yeah, this really. Sometimes you want to back someone up without actually adding anything, and the like button allows you to do that. That's all really.

I think it's good in regards to stopping spam. In theory it should stop the heaps of posts that just basically say "yep." or "agreed". But yeah, you're always going to get people running around liking eachothers posts on certain topics, have already seen it a few times. The positives out-weight the negatives though for me and I've seen it work great on other forums.

Judging by the lack of use evident on posts its a waste of time IMO. Its a Forum with a lot opinions freely expressed and who cares whether their post is 'liked' or not?

Hmmm, not sure tbh. If it stops people posting then will that detract from the advertising revenue due to a 'less busy' forum, or are the 'likes' taken into account?

It's a feature of most forums and quite frankly I'm surprised when a forum is missing it. I think it's a strength of a forum where it allows people to show support or allegiance with a perspective. What is wrong with that? There will always be misuse of any feature and without it, the same people will find another way to demonstrate their idiocy.

I have found often that those opposed to such an option are concerned about the need for or lack of social approval
