Why should people go to jail for finding legitimate (albeit morally questionable methods) of avoiding ways to pay tax? Please don't tell me if you were earning millions and millions of pounds and your accountant said, I can save you a couple of million in tax by using this legal process to avoid it, you would say, "no I want to pay an extra couple of million, because the million I already pay isn't enough". It just wouldn't happen.

I agree with you - if I had an accountant who could save me tax money, I'd take it any day!

The point is, everyone today feels hard done by in some way, whether it's judging how 'hard done by' they are against other people like MPs and celebs, or whether it's realising they're pennyless at the end of each month, or that they're best friend owns a better car than them. Little 'wins' like all the things i this thread make it better, I guess! Whether it's right or wrong!

Yes - if she was stealing cash she'd be some sort of genius! To be fair to her, she was working in a decent job (recruitment) and wasn't a scum-bag or a scrounger, she was / is a really nice woman!

But she was a fraudster and a thief, is that better?

I think it is a sad sign of the times that people think petty theft/fiddling is ok. The supplier of goods/services, or the Treasury where tax is concerned, get their money from one source, YOU! Their pricing reflects the thieving and fiddling they experience. Every single one of us pays extra to cover that theft/fiddle.

Colour it anyway you want, it's still morally wrong.

Would you allow your mate/colleague to dip into your pocket and help themselves to money? No you wouldn't. So why is it ok for them to steal/fiddle from someone else, who will then reflect that in the price/tax they charge you? YOU are paying for their theft.

Life in 2014 eh ? my few thoughts

Those of us that work , live to work instead of working to live, our lives are rushing by and we havent time to enjoy it ,
by the time we get time and finances to enjoy life we will be too old to enjoy the stuff we shoulda done

The ordinary person enjoyed a small percentage of the good times but are expected to pay back a big part of the cost of the mess made of it .

people will get sent to prison for non payment of small crimes like TV licence etc , but the bankers who wasted millions and ruined a continent get community service if they get anything at all ..

When we hear of wars , genocide[sp], and murders or famines most pass them off as just another one or simply change the channel so it doesnt upset their viewing

A year when governments spend billions on arms and wars and expenses for them selves while people starve
live rough in the world , we still cant even cure the common cold ..

We found out Some People who made us laugh , entertained us and were celebrities to us were evil scumbags who abused their positions, how could people precieved so good be so bad ..

2014 , HUH . just another year for society to slip down the slippery slope of selfishness , laziness and uncaring , another year of ME and what can i get or what am i entitled to free ..

2014 Probably no worse than 2013 was , probably a bit better than 2015 will be and year on year until people and society change and show more respect for themselves and each other , :mmm:

Good post Bladeplayer..............I often wonder what happened to Education, education, education.

We seem to produce thousands of graduates with unsuitable skills for a small number of suitable jobs.
We produce very few young skilled tradesmen/women with many positions available.

It sometimes feels like 60% of the population are paid the minimum wage which we all know is not a living wage

Seems to me we are hell bent on using all means in producing a population that is so big it will drag the country into real abject poverty.
