Lee Westwood Not Happy.......

Of course without knowing the full story we are only speculating.

I would be calling out Willett then the team selecting process that could stop this happening.

Willetts head is in the clouds and is not a team player now letting Westwood down and also not supporting Rose at the Olympics and flying home early.

I didn't say he was blaming Wood - just seems that is seems fair reason to be unhappy that he adjusted his schedule to make sure he was sorted for the World Cup and that's all been changed last minute.

I would hope that Willett and Wood had the discussion and spoke to Westwood about and if not then that's a reason to be unhappy with Wood because would expect professional courtesy to speak to Westwood.

I'm sorry if that doesn't sit with your clear campaign against Westwood but for me I can see why he would be unhappy just as I would if it's any player who was in the same situation

Why would Willet need to speak to either Wood or Westwood, you make it sound like its jobs for the boys here, the rules are there for a reason and neither Willet or Wood done anything wrong, they oweWestwood nothing.

Sounds a decent way to pick the pairs tbh. It's always said to be so critical at the Ryder cup to "get the pairings right" so why would you want to force a player to play with someone who he maybe isn't comfortable with? Obviously unfortunate on Lee but I agree with the above comment that this is more down to Willett than Wood.

Are you that twisted in your bitterness towards Westwood that you can't see how it would be at the very least polite for Willett to let Westwood know that he was no longer playing and also for Wood to let Westwood know that he was going to pick Sullivan - remembering that Willett had already asked Westwood to play with him

It's called be polite and being a bit courteous to fellow professionals

I see both sides, to be fair. Perfectly understandable for lee to be upset at the circumstances but, if the format allows a player to pick his partner I think it reasonable for wood to pick whoever he likes. Maybe a better plan would have been to keep ww, since he was already in the team, and let him pick a new partner?

One thing's for sure, Chris wood better be qualified by right when captain Westwood is making his Ryder cup picks!

i am sure it was done via an official from the tour who would have approached Wood to asked him to play as the highest ranked eligible player and told him his options & the same official should have and probably did notify Westwood. I am sure everything was done above board so Westwood should just accept it, or are you saying it was all done underhanded ?

You speak of courteous well if that was the case why is Westwood making an issues of it and saying he is not happy with Wood, sour grapes from Westwood if you ask me

It's a flight he won't be travelling cattle class and he must rack up the air miles so the air line will do what is needed to appease him. He should be more upset about not being picked and its probably his way of showing that he is.

As it's in the Daily Mail I thought it would be best to go beyond the headlines and actually look at what the players said

Wood - ‘I can understand Lee’s frustration after being named in the team, only to be left high and dry when Danny pulled out.

‘Maybe the rules need looking at in those circumstances. But I couldn’t let that affect my decision.’

So first of all Wood understands why Westwood would be frustrated by it all

‘I haven’t spoken to Woody yet, but frustrated would be one word you could use to describe how I feel about it,’

‘It’s not great when it all happens at the last minute, especially as I’d geared all my end of season plans around playing in the World Cup.

‘I’m not pointing fingers, but you would have thought that when a guy has made detailed plans – and sorted out travel and everything else – he should still be in the team, even when someone else has to pull out.’

So Westwood doesn't actually say he is angry at Wood , so the headline first is misleading ( imagine that after that other thread about the DM and people making judgements based on Headlines ) - he isn't pointing fingers at anyone , he is frustrated that he changed his schedule and plans including not playing in recent comps, and it seems to me that he has a very valid point in regards once selected that player should go.

I don't see how its sour grapes from westwood? he got told he was playing in an event (with a large prize fund), didnt play Nedbank last week so that his schedule was appropriately positioned and then has been stitched up.

I'd 100% be p!ssed off.

Agree with this, I'd be raging in his position but not at Wood. Although not actually sure he is or if the press are just making it look that way

Rules seem a bit daft for this to happen so late in the day really, once you've been picked that should be you in, perhaps if the other person drops out you then become the person to pick a partner?

Was about to say the same thing. Westwood is the best English player behind Faldo over the past 50 years. He also played in the final pairing at two majors this year. Form is temporary, Class is permanent, etc., etc.

Sorry, but his class didn't show at the Ryder cup. I'm sure there are plenty of tournaments that Sullivan has outperformed Lee too.

As Wood said, he picked the player he felt he would pair with best.

I like Westwood, but Ryder cup aside. In the history of the game he won't be remembered IMO. Always the bridesmaid and all that.

Look ok how much monty is derided, the affection soon where's off when you have to listen to a loser (respective) tell us how majors are won.

Thanks Golf England.

On reading DW had dropped out, I e-mailed that I was available. Clubs have been cleaned and shirts have been ironed, and for what?? It's not only Lee that is disappointed :(
