Learning to drive

How does the laws of the road tell you what a catalytic converter does. How do the laws of the road tell you the percentage of fuel saving if you drive at x miles per hour below the national speed limit etc etc. All in the theory test I gather

A fair point. It’s been a few years...

Took a mock test through the app found a free version, haven't read anything g from the highway code of anything else and got 40 out of 50 fail by 3

i'd advise putting extra time into Hazard Perception, particularly if you're a man. I remember years ago reading that men tend to pass the theory section at a higher rate than women but fail the hazard perception section at a higher rate than women also. Something about us not perceiving danger in the same way or some such guff. Makes sense though because I failed my hazard perception twice and passed the theory bit 100% both times I failed it before passing both on the 3rd try

I've failed my practical driving test 5 times, but passed the theory test 3 times out of 3. I found that by far the easiest part.

There's a phone app you can get which has practise tests on it I think. Or maybe it was a website I used. Maybe Google it and see, the best thing is just to do loads of practise ones until you've memorised the type of things that come up.

I have been doing mick tests regularly and I pass 100% on h+p, its the signs that let me down, iv not bought the reading material yet so I'm expecting better results once I read through right now I'm just going by what I already know and I'm doing quite well still loads to learn still,

If I remember correctly there are 3 main types. Must not, circular white with red edging. Must do, circular or oblong in blue. Warning, triangular. Then all you need to do is decipher the middle. BUT pay particular attention to no stopping and no parking as very similar. Also stop sign and national speed limit as goes against the grain. I think I have remembered correctly. Some time since I fully digested the Highway Code. Fine book that it is

Have you not passed it currently? Have you tried out one of those intensive courses?

There's no need for me to put this here, but I love to brag about this to anyone who will listen :D I passed my test with 1 minor. I can still remember the minor, and I am still annoyed about it 11 years on!

I gave up. It gets really expensive if you keep not passing. I decided driving obviously wasn't for me. Wife keeps nagging about it though.

Wife keeps saying "you'll need to drive when we have kids". I said 'you would trust our children to be in the car with someone who failed 5 times?? What kind of a mother are you?'
Theres an instructor who works my area who, allegedly, failed 9 times when she was a teenager....
Jus sayin

I found when my daughter had her test there’s a lot of things in there that have nothing to do with driving.
More to do with common sense really ,maybe that’s why so many fail.

One was a first aid question really. Just drive past was an option so maybe it is about driving.
I think lots of us would not pass now judging by the standard now.

Son has his driving test today or tomorrow. I do hope he passes.

He has to get from Gateshead on the 8th Oct to Norwich the next day as he is rep'ing for Lucy Spraggan on her UK tour. She'll get driven and will be able to sleep. He's got to drive...Or maybe he'll get the train to Sheffiedl and Mrs Hogie will drive him to Norwich. Rest of the tour distances are not too stupid - so maybe he'l be able to drive them. If not we're going to have to take turns in being his driver...:(

Kids these days, no idea of the geography of the UK :)

Give that new car a run out.

I have my theory on the 8th next month, downloaded the app and been doing some light reading, doing OK in the mock tests, seems like there's a lot to learn but i know most of it just need to brush up on the bits I'm inconsistent with
