Evening fella's,

Im hoping that seeing as though you boys across the pond have so much information and experience on these launch monitor things that someone maybe able to answer me a few things.....

I went into one of our local shops this morning where a mate of mine is working.... My main reason for dropping in was just for a chat but we got talking about how our games were and what had been going on the past few months.....

I had told him that i got reacquainted with my wilsons and the pings had gone but i wanted to know what the story was with the DG S300 shafts and whether or not they were right for my swing.....

So he set me up on the launch monitor with a Ping S56 7 iron as i didnt have my own 7 iron but it did have an S300 shaft in it and i began hitting a few balls....
He put impact tape on the face to see where i was hitting the ball and it turned out that i was striking the ball dead centre in the face but slightly toward the top of the club.....

My swing speed was averaging 86-87 mph there were a few around 82 -84 but once i got warmed up a bit it was climbing up to 88-89 mph......
I wasnt taking too much notice of ball speed or spin....

So i have a couple of questions.....

Would a swing speed 86mph with a 7 iron warrant stiff shafts in all my clubs?
What does it mean when im hitting the ball out of the middle of the club but slightly high on the face?

And are these launch monitor thingy's accurate.....Its indoors if that makes any difference!

There are a few different factors to determine which shaft not just swing speed as far as I am aware. I carry my 8i around 145ish and use PX 5.0.

I kind of guessed that Chris.....Thing is i wasnt too caught up with the readings as i wasnt getting fitted as such.....The shafts i had in my old Pings were stiff AWT's but these are a bit heavier.....

One thing i did notice is that im not spraying the ball around half as much as i was with the Pings.

High 80's with a 7 iron is definitely stiff. I got fitted last week and was told 70's reg, 80's stiff 90's X-stiff for a 6 iron.

I also got measured for a driver, and high 80's on a 6 iron translated up to between 110 & 115 when I hit the driver, which is borderline x-stiff.

Ye there are a few factors but I would highly expect you to be a stiff shaft. I am 84mph 6 iron and 106mph driver and have all stiff shafts. I find S300 a bit heavy and boardy though, love my PX 5.5

86 in a 7 iron is almost certainly a comfortable S flex, unless you have a very very smooth tempo. In the Mizuno Swing DNA system, S flex starts at about 78mph for a 6 iron with a tempo of 10 (very brisk), and goes up to a starting point of about 87 for a very slow tempo. Most players are somewhere in the middle, where the starting point for S starts in the 82- 84 region.

Most players have about 85% of driver swing speed in a 6 iron, so if you are 86 in a 7 iron, probably another 1 or 2 with the 6, and about 105-ish driver. That would get you in the lower end of the PGA Tour driving stats, so plenty enough game to play off a very low handicap.

Ethan your a Gent....

Cheers for putting a smile on my face ;)

I have a smooth enough tempo im kind of deliberate and slowish in the back swing but once i start the downswing when my hands get to hip high is where i start at the ball pretty hard and fast......Nothing stupidly fast though more controlled than a wild swing if that makes sense.

Other stats required, (I'd guess your ss is probably around 82-84mph with a 7 iron) but if your carry is that far with an 8, those shafts are almost certainly too soft for you.

I have recently been and had a session on a flightscope not had chance to really study my data yet is there anywhere online where i can find out where my data needs improving?

Exactly the same here, was fitted by Mizuno at 86mph for a 6 iron in a Dynalite Gold S300 shaft for my MP-57's and hit that 170yrds. Lovely ball flight too. I also swing the driver at 106mph which is also a stiff shaft, in fact whilst I was waiting for my Powakaddy last week I tested the RBZ and Cobra AMP drivers and the guy said that the AMP stock stiff shaft was a little bit whippy so would have even have put me in a X-Stiff shaft in this model!
