Played last night in our pairs matchplay, due to a bit of luck( W/O and someone got disqualified) we have progressed into the 3rd round without lifting a club. Some may think this is good but we only played this format for one round before - so we where nervous.
I am off 21, my partner off 15 and the opponents both off 22. Unfortunately after a horrendous time getting off a tee box lately and a dose of the shanks I was really not looking forward to the match.
First tee and my (normally steady) partner pushed his tee shot right into the thickest tree on the hole - and for the first time this year I creamed my driver - right down the middle and in perfect position.
The opponents then both creamed their drives beside mine. 5 mins later the hole was halved with 3 pars and a double bogie. Instantly we felt the pressure.
Next hole was won with a birdie - from a 22 handicapper! Perfect Drive - wedge and putt.
We halved a few and then found ourselves 2 down (we played par golf) at the turn. I shanked 3 in a row but then all of a suddenly hit the sweet spot - I had a birdie followed by 6 pars while my partner had 100 yard chip in eagle.
Could not believe it - I played my round of the year and my partner played 3 shots under his handicap and we only just won the match - seriously the hardest match I have ever played. But so enjoyable - with friendly opposition.
Lets just hope the next lot don't play as well - that’s my good round used for another few months.
