This is my last post in the OOB section of this forum. I am not here to talk about Immigration, food, football, or indeed any other topic. For me the OOB is too controversial and is not conducive to the spirit of a Golf forum. Mike H has threatened to pull the forum and my opinion is that the OOB section is the main reason that it has descended into the problems that it has.
I'm here to talk golf and that is all I will do from now on. Goodbye OOB it's been a blast.

I can understand your view but i think its just the same as any other golfrelated post, you dont need to reply or even read them, the oob section is good for asking folk questions about computer problems car problems or anything in general. Fitba religion doesnt really interest me and everyone has their view or opinion. Be that blatantly wrong or ill advised its up to them.
The oob section was the only section i cud vent my my frustration at losing my brother.

Can't stay away.... addicted

It was on the Lounge where it all kicked off.

Recently but, the OOB has seen its fair share. However, I think without it the forum would become a little sterile. You can chose not to look in or participate in the OOB or any topic TBH but, there will always be difference of opinions in any area and some will be read differently to how they were directed and as such sometimes there will be flash points, handbags and all that

Sorry to hear that mate. In my opinion, it's not the section that causes the problem, but some of the people within it. If sensible people (or you ;)) avoid it then the balance will shift towards the dark side. Before you know it, the OOB section will be like a badly contained distopia. Gradually infecting the rest of the forum with its dark, malevolent tendrils!!!

I think I may have had too much chocolate.

Yet you have four threads you have started on the first page

I have had great advice on OOB, from new computers, colleges for my daughter, sky deals, books, music, and even some good football chat.

As previously stated it is not the section, but the posters that can make or ruin it. Hopefully those that just want an argument will try the Argument Clinic, and go for the full argument or even a course.:p

I find it a little ironic you've even started a thread about it being your last post. Why not just not post?

Personally I never open a topic in OOB that I can see is likely to either not interest me or be controversial. The threads I've seen that get controversial have been in The Lounge!

The area was designed to discuss non Golf related subjects. If you were in the pub or spike bar and a discussion opened about a political or social subject within a group then what would be the problem, if you were not interested then you just keep out of the debate. Why do people that have no interest in a subject jump in and ask why the matter is being debated as it is of no interest to me. This attitude is confusing to me.

As long as personal insults or bad language is not being used I dont see many reasons for the need for moderation. Maybe anyone entering a thread should tick a box saying they understand that GM will not e responsible or endorse anything said in this debate.

I really think we have a problem with restricting open discussion and inhibiting freedom of speech in this country now. If you dont allow people the freedom to express and discuss their beliefs then you end up with the type of society that the USSR tried and failed to control.
