Laser or GPS?

I've used both. For me, distance to pin is key, so I prefer Laser.

I'd recommend Laser for you too - as you don't really play enough away courses to justify the benefits of GPS over Laser.

You will know most distances in your home course anyway, so the focus should be on the shot to the green.

Laser is 'away course ready' too and doesn't require an annual sub - though there are plenty of GPS ones that don't either.

Try GPS on phone out in bounce games - but remember Phone GPS is not allowed in comps.

I disagree with part of your post. The laser is not always course ready if its a blind shot or if you have to clear trees etc.

Im sure his "ghost" could confirm but I think you'll find the laser aint used as much as it used to be ;)

Your right val. I also swooped on a Snooper GPS as well mainly due to Machrihanish having a few blind second shots. If its very windy it can also be difficult to get an accurate reading with the laser.

Like the guy off +2 said its ideal for both if you have both and I also tend to use laser from 8 or 9 irons and above. I'm not a good enough golfer to need to know its exactly 147 to the pin. If it says 142 to the middle I'm happy with that. I can't distinguish between a 142 yard swing and a 147 yard swing!

Er. 'Away Course Ready'. Means it's Ready to be used at any Away Course! Agree it's not 'Always Ready'. Quite a few (though not all) GPS units need to have course loaded - so not 'Away Course Ready'.

Maybe you should prepare for some 'incoming' from the Dodger/Hunter 'team' about Facts and spouting whatever?:rofl:

You my friend are a Cadbury's fruit and nut.

I have a Garmin S2 watch and find it very user friendly, certainly at my level of accuracy with my irons FMB of the greens information is more than good enough for me, plus it has the added benefit of distances to doglegs and also lay-up distances.

I bought the S1 recently and it's perfect for my needs. Not good enough to hit within 2yrds of the pin so front, middle and back does just fine. To be fair I don't care where it is as long as I hit GIR...:D

Given the number of responses, this should have been a poll.

your correct the craw and chris661 had nothing but good things to say about these lasers same brand but i bought the 500 in white (OCD strikes again  ) and i would have no problem recommend them or hotgolf where mine came from too.

I have the Hillman but got a wee look at Chris661's Snooper. Very nice bit of kit. A lot more compact than the hillman and now it's down to the same price as the hillman there would be no contest. The cheapest I saw the snooper for when I got the hillman was £150.

I also have a shotmiser G700. Another nice bit of kit and I've found the support to be good and the fact I can just touch on hazards etc to get a yardage quickly is very handy.

Like other have said the GPS is quicker and one that displays an overview of the hole is great for playing new courses but laser is a fail safe option that will work anywhere.

fixed ;)
