Knee injury

It happened a week last Saturday on the first tee. I swung at the ball and something went deep in the back of my left knee. Within seconds I was in excoriating pain and couldn't walk. Next day I was on crutches, after a couple of days I could walk with just one crutch. I can now walk easily on one crutch and take a few steps round the house without a crutch. I can't bend my knee past 90*.

I paid privately for an MRI scan . . . . . Report: 'oblique tear of the posterior horn of the medial meniscus and there is a partial tear of the posterior root attachment.' I am trying to get an (NHS) appointment with a knee specialist for advice / a prognosis.

Anyone had the same thing?

not the same thing, i had the ligaments (7 breaks) break off around the joint back in 95, playing Rugby. i NHS did the surgery to repair and was in a full legnth cast for a year. once the cast was off and i was starting to get movement back but had trouble and pain when a couple of the screws started working there way out, it was a long waiting list to get them done on the NHS, the Surgeon helpfully suggested i could go private quicker.. and what a suprise he could do it the next week.. luckily i had Bupa and got it done, but it was never the same again and never got full bend back even 25 years later.

Good luck.

Like @patricks148 mine is not the same thing but certainly a knee issue.
I ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament and strained my medial ligament of my right leg while playing football about 15 years ago. I was running for the ball and it just went.
I got operated on within a month by the NHS (I asked the surgeon if it would be quicker to go private but he said it was so bad they had to do it asap but had to wait for the swelling to go down first). It was pretty bad as I was on crutches for 3 months, had a splint on my leg for that time and then did physio. Basically I wasn't able to play golf for a year.
Nowadays, with more modern operating techniques, I doubt it would take as long.

If its an oblique tear of the minuscus that means its torn diagonally across its length which is why you'd have been referred to a specialist in order to ascertain how bad it is or in medical terms whether its grade 1, 2 or 3, that's what will determine whether surgery is required or not and what sort of surgery that is. If there is also a small tear to the root it makes the whole thing something called a complex tear. Which essentially is a series of 2 or more tears, again can increase risk of surgery depending on the grade of tear.

Probably not want you want to hear but until you've seen the specialist the best thing to is literally complete rest.

Thanks for the helpful replies.

In the interim I have found a Knee forum . . . . yep, a forum that talks about nothing but knee injuries. What they don't know about knees is not worth knowing and after reading the full MRI report, whilst there's a lot going on most of it is down to old age wear and tear and I might get away with a few weeks resting it (optimist).
