Kingsbarns- heaven on earth?

Played Kingsbarns for the first time last Wednesday and just thought I'd say it was easily the best golfing experience I've had (been playing 20+ years). Everything they say about it is true, the location is fabulous and the hospitality superb. The course is simply a joy if you can stop staring at the views from every hole. Every shot demands oodles of concentration and trying to work out what to do is fantastic, not like my home course where every hole seems like a drive and a nine iron! Yardages are really important as the greens are very big and the bunkering mental. £68 if you are resident in Scotland which is great value, We played a 2 ball taking about 4 hours and I'd have been happy if it took 5. I haven't ever enjoyed a course as much as this, puts the nearby Old Course firmly in the shade! Play this course, the par 5 12th is unreal.

I have been up to watch the Dunhill Links at Kingsbarns and plan on playing it in August. I think it's a great course.

A friend just played it last week and thought it was brilliant. He tells me that the same team are presently constructing a new course (Castle Stuart Links) between Nairn and Inverness which he reckons will be even better, as he has walked the premises. Their website is worth a look

Hi Birdieman,

Played Kingsbarns for the first time on Friday. Wow. You're right. Not only a great course but a great set-up. Wasn't the clubhouse great? Not overly lavish but great views and so friendly. Is it true they don't have any members?

Have to say it did help that I played better than usual and we were quite blessed with the weather ( a 1 or sometimes 2 club wind - no rain )

We played as a fourball and it did take 5 hours. There's some distanace between some of the holes, isn't there? Managed a 77. Hit 15 greens in regulation! They are huge! Finished with a 3 putt bogey on 17 and a double (lost ball) on the last otherwise it would have been a cracking score.

Thought the course was very fair. You could open up the shoulders on many holes and the course guide was magnificent for giving you the exact yardage every time. I'm planning to play it again at least twice a year! It's a beaut.
