Does/has anyone owned or used one of these devices. It's my mum's birthday soon and this is looking like a decent offering but just looking for any info/pitfalls etc.

Many thanks in advance.

HIDs is an avid reader as is our daughter and granddaughter all have Kindles, all think there are the best thing since sliced bread. They get the latest novels in an instant and usually before they are in the shops and at around half the shop price.
Just checked with HIDs as to any negatives. She couldn't think of anything. Go ahead and buy it she'll be chuffed to bits, wouldn't mind one myself.
P.S If you look on the Amazon site (Kindle reader) there's loads of info.

I bought my old man one for his birthday - says it's one of the best presents he's ever got, absolutely loves it.

I had a quick flick on it and decided to buy one for myself. They are absolutely brilliant. The money you'll save on books will pay for the device in no time at all.

There's quite a lot of decent freebies on the kindle store as well. Definitely worth a look at buddy.

HID has one and never stops reading it - ever!

Lots of free stuff but some of the "books" work out more expensive than the "dead tree" version so keep an eye out.

You do need to be able to connect to the internet by wifi to download your books,

There is also a more expensive Kindle (about £150) which has a mobile sim card in it, so you dont need an internet connection to download books, just a mobile signal.

So if she hasnt got broadband and lives in the sticks with no mobile signal, shes stuffed.

I have just got the standard one and have put my holiday books on it and saved about £25 on the shelf prices. No wonder Waterstones is in trouble

We have got one and they are excellent, especially on holiday. Saves carrying 15 books with us!

If it's any bit as good as the Kindle App for the iPad, you're in for a treat. Great bit of kit. They seem very reasonably priced too from what I've seen.
