Killing rollups has hurt golf

We went to full online booking only during Covid.
Sometime later a return to turn-up-and-queue was talked about.
We had a vote. It was fairly obvious that full booking had the greatest support.



"Groups" seem to manage OK with organising themselves.
I see no evidence whatsoever with social golf in all its forms being "killed" or even mildly injured.

If anything, Covid confirmed perceptions about it and led to tee bookings being removed, as everything was getting booked within minutes. But it's pointless to keep this conversation going, as our club is happy with our current system anyway.

Yeah.. my club went to tee-time booking around the time I joined because it was the start of Covid and that was mandated as I recall. But as soon as they were able to, they returned to the 'turn up and put your name down' approach, as that was what the majority of members wanted. At the time it was three-tee start, nowadays it's a two-tee start, which I actually prefer. If the club was massively busy it might be a problem, but I'm happy with the system as it is because I never seem to have a problem getting out pretty quickly. We know that there are roll-ups at 8:00 and 8:30 on Saturdays so we just work around them if we're not joining them - can play at 7:45, 8:25 ish or just before 9am. Usually don't have to wait more than 10 minutes.

We just organise ourselves to book when it opens

And if a golf course is close to houses etc then the greenstaff have to worry about noise levels

Most of our gk equipment these days is electric. That helps.

Why do groups of seniors need to play on one big group? Are they worried some of them might get lost?

To me this just feels like some people feel entitled to play at their time.

They were mentioned earlier. I’ve never seen any other age group care about roll ups and playing together.

Come to mine then. The largeish one on a Saturday morning has ages 18 to 70. with the majority not being retired and still working.
