Just rejoining the course I was first at in 2015. They have made an effort to go with the booking system that all courses are going to.....that's not my point. I LIKE online booking. But, to deal with the killing off of rollups....the same people who usually play at xxx time of the day still try to do so....to varied degrees of success. When I first joined the club it was a happier place.....now, less so. A course I am leaving (30 min drive) has 2 BOOKED rollups on a Wed and Thurs....with anywhere from 30-45 people participating.....rowdy....happy...good times. Granted...the course allows people to go out on the 1st, 15th and 17th holes to get through the first hole in an hour. Who decided that the "right" way to play is booking with just your mates.....and the "wrong" way to play is in a large rollup?
No way I am saying that we need to go back to the days of "put your ball in the shute" golf. Luckily, I didn't have to live through that.
There is a place for organised booked rollups......AND booking with just your mates.
