  • Thread starter Thread starter vkurup
  • Start date Start date
It is a well known fact that 150,000 golfers die every year due to starvation and dehydration on the back 9.* Don't risk it gents, stock up on food ad water before the round!

*this may not be true.

I am fit enough (not rugby fit like I used to be) but 34 years old and am fit enough.. I need to eat something when I play, blood sugars drop and I feel faint. I think I should actually go and have some tests done at the quacks.. I also have to drink so much fluid!! End up marking my territory A LOT!! Lol

COCONUT WATER?????

A new low for this forum. What a load of rubbish!

There you go jumping in with rash statements. ;) Did you not know it is the natural suspension system for the endosperm of the coconut?

It is a natural energy drink, high in minerals and potassium.

I had to Google it, never heard of it before!

Low in calories, naturally fat- and cholesterol free, more potassium than four bananas, and super hydrating - these are just a few of the many benefits ascribed to America’s latest health craze: coconut water.

Dubbed "Mother Nature’s sports drink" by marketers, the demand is sky rocketing, propelled by celebrity and athlete endorsements and promises to hydrate the body and help with a whole host of conditions, from hangovers to cancer and kidney stones.

But is coconut water capable of delivering on all the promises or is it hype?

What Is Coconut Water?

Naturally refreshing, coconut water has a sweet, nutty taste. It contains easily digested carbohydrate in the form of sugar and electrolytes. Not to be confused with high-fat coconut milk or oil, coconut water is a clear liquid in the fruit’s centre that is tapped from young, green coconuts.

It has fewer calories, less sodium, and more potassium than a sports drink. Ounce per ounce, most unflavoured coconut water contains 5.45 calories, 1.3 grams sugar, 61 milligrams (mg) of potassium, and 5.45 mg of sodium compared to Gatorade, which has 6.25 calories, 1.75 grams of sugar, 3.75 mg of potassium, and 13.75 mg of sodium.

Better Than Some Sugary Drinks

Coconut water has less sugar than many sports drinks and much less sugar than sodas and some fruit juices. Plain coconut water could be a better choice for adults and kids looking for a beverage that is less sweet. But don’t overdo it, says Lillian Cheung, DSc, RD, of Harvard School of Public Health. “One 11-ounce container has 60 calories and if you drink several in one day, the calories can add up quickly," Cheung says.

Cheung, co-author of Savor Mindful Eating, Mindful Life, suggests being mindful about beverage choices and reading labels to choose plain coconut water and avoid those with added sugar or juices, which are no different from other sugary beverages.

I make this flapjack for most days, its really dead simple and tastes amazing.

1 Cup Muesli or Porridge Oats
1/2 Cup Of Peanut Butter
1/2 Bottle Honey
(cinnamon optional).

Step 1-Mix The Stuff In a bowl Until even consistency not runny and not dry
Step 2 Line a piece of tupperware with cling film
Step 3 Chuck it in, flatten the mixture down.
Step 4 Refridgerate overnight then cut up and take with you.

Nonsense. It's absolutely wonderful stuff.

With three shots of rum in it.

Bottoms up :)

As a general rule, I don't eat anything.

I have a good breakfast before I play and have my lunch when I get back.

I'll stick a 'narna just in case I get peckish but as a general rule, I don't eat.

4 hours between meals isn't anything special.

What amazes me is that some of you eat and drink more playing a round of golf in the aim of keeping your energy up that I do running a half marathon

Unfortunately, coconut water is getting a bit of a bad name thanks to all the publicity around it. If I am not wrong Madonna invested in some coconut water company and now suddenly all the hipster (excludes Homer) are drinking it.

Coconut water (as Homer says) is pretty good.. used to drink it a lot as a kid, but havent had much except on the odd tropical holiday. Never thought it would be a sports drink though..

A couple of fags before you tee off, another one going down the first, roll up another around the 4th or 5th and stop after 9 for a cuppa and another fag. If there is a fourball waiting to play into the 10th green I might roll up another one while I am waiting, otherwise I will wait until the 11th. If the 11th is a longish par 5, I might have another one before I reach the green. A quick one on the 15th and that leaves me a couple of holes to get my breath back before rolling another one on the 18th tee. If it's a close game, say we are all square, or dormy, I might roll another one as I get to the green. Chuck the fag end down the cup to say "goodbye" to the course and then roll another one up on the trek back to the changing rooms.

I'm the same but I miss out the cuppa at the 9th... too many fluids!!

If you rolled them in advance, you could shave another 50 seconds off your round, and have time for a bunk up in the car park.

I usually have a Mung Bean salad and a glass of Prune Juice at the halfway House. Really helps me focus on the back 9.

Coconut water is so last season.
