Besides staying hydrated, keeping the energy up is another area that needs a bit of attention. My course does the usual Mars/Kit Kat bars and does not stock any cereal bars. I asked the shop and their view was that people dont buy cereal bars and then these have to thrown away.

While I am a banana lad, I have found Seed & Nut mix from M&S which is pretty good. However, this lacks the extra sugar rush that you get from a chocolate. So reaching out to check if any one has any tips on this?

My pro shop just started stocking 'Golf Performance Bar'. I think this is just repackaged cereal bar. Any one tried this?

not for me, eat very negligible amounts of sugar to keep my sugar levels consistent, why on earth would you want a sugar rush mid round? personally fluids and some raw nuts do me (unless theres a halfway house when it would be rude to turn down a butty lol)

Yoghurt or Chocolate Flapjacks for me!

No need to get too technical about 'energy' for golf. Any food will do imo. The body is amazingly good at selecting where it gets its energy from unless under stress - and golf isn't physically stressful

The Golf fruit and nut bars I've seen in Pro Shops cost about 3-5 times what they should imo.

Personally the last thing you want is a rush of anything, as the bigger the rush the bigger the drop/fall!

I do however use those bars, specifically the Oat & Fruit and not only do I fell better for eating one on the turn, I actually enjoy them anyway.

Water for me or squash, never sugar loaded drinks for the same point made at the beginning.

Partial to a Banana but sometimes I forget about it and its not very nice to find some days or a week later in the bag!

I have the odd golf bar cos it tastes good not to keep my energy up, I'm 28 no need for that. Few bottles of water does me.

Indeed, I read something along the lines of after a sugar rush the low leaves you worse than where you started. Slow release is what you need so the juices in your body don't get over excited and churn out a constant amount of energy - no highs and no lows.

I know plenty of people that stock up on energy bars, fruit/nut mixes and drinks from local supermarkets.

I use these http://www.sweetspotgolfbar.co.uk/ mainly because the pro shop stocked them and I then won a supply of them on Twitter. I tend to have one after three or four holes and another around the eleventh or twelfth. Add in some water to keep hydrated, and a coconut water if it is really hot and it does me fine. Might have a banana too if I feel particularly peckish

Peanut butter and jam sarnies if I've got time to make them before a round. If not, then I'm sure I can cope for 4 hours without a snack....

We have no trouble in the Saturday swindle. One of us will take pork pies, another will take scones and the third will take something to wash it down with. Some weeks it'll be steak pies or sausage rolls, and then there's the mince pies at Xmas. Occasionally the liquid might be a box of wine that the first group will take out. They'll leave it for the 2nd group, and so on through the groups - usually only half a glass or so...

how did u manage win them.. will try my luck with these.

BTW, where do u get the coconut water from? Havent seen them in the supermarkets around me..

This thread is in danger of becoming a bit of a parody soon. Specialist beans, bars and waters for the course!! Golf will, and possibly has, eaten itself....

I don't eat anything on a round, it's only 4 hours

A bottle of water was all I had today, didnt feel any loss of energy

Exactly this. It's 4 hours walking and standing about, if you struggle with lack of energy after that, then some exercise is a better cure IMHO.

Those golf bars have more calories in them than a plate of roast beef, with all the trimmings. I can't see why anyone needs that just to wander about outside for 4 hours, between proper meals.
