Well, kind of.

Saw this clip of him at a tm marketing day. He is demonstrating why normal golfers should use a 14 degree sldr rather than 9.5.

Swinging at 95 mph it looks like he's barely moving but he still gets 260 carry. It would be interesting to stick it up on the telly and try to replicate the tempo.

I saw this in the flesh and it was impressive, what was interesting was when Justin hit his own spec driver at that swing speed and carried somewhere in the regions of 180. His own driver he was carrying 290+

Cool. What sort of flight/shape was he getting. Did it change when he upped speed?

Interesting demo!

I don't seem to have any problem hitting my 9.5* high though - and with pretty much optimal spin (or even too little!). KofD day proved that.

The couple of dozen swings I've had with a 9.5 SLDR seemed pretty much the same flight too!

Loft up for the club golfer is nothing new and a lot of club pros I have spoken to over the years reckon 10.5 is the minimum most mid-high handicappers should use and that most should really be looking at 11, 12 or more. I remember having a Cleveland Hi Bore XLS in 12 degrees and you know what, it really got it out there. Shame it was in a draw bias which eventually became a hinderance and why I got rid. Of course that does beg the question why do pros (more so that high street retailers who are usually just after the bucks) spend more time asking about what a member/customer wants but I guess that's a different ball game.

Funny to see Rose trying to swing that slowly but again, I guess it proves you don't need to thrash at it to get it out there

hmmm. Interesting - where does all this leave me? My driver is a 9* Ping G10 with Prolaunch REDs shaft. I guess the club fitters would tell me I won't be able to hit it. I guess I must have fast swing or fast hands as I hit it great - that said I'm certainly too fast off the top of my backswing :)

Remind me why I want more loft in my driver?

I do find the title of the thread slightly offensive. As a hacker myself, I wish I had a swing like that. ;)

Fair play to Taylor Made for actually making money (selling clubs) out of this.

They are persuading club players to use more lofted drivers....

which, we knew was the answer (for many) at least 5 years ago....

:)

Back in the day if we were struggling with our driver we'd just switch and use our brassie off the tee. Problem solved.

When I got fitted for my driver the other month my swing speed was 96mph,it looks so slow on there.

I really need to improve it over the winter!!

A controlled 96mph drive that means you hot the sweet spot more often than not is better than a 110 mph drive than may come off the toe, heel etc a lot of the time.

SLDR is a very low spinning driver, so it's important you use more loft to get the right launch. Your driver is higher spinning so you don't necessarily need the extra loft.

Higher spinning? - I never knew that - just looks like a golf club to my very untutored eyes. I just saw it in the used bag in the pro shop - took it out for a few holes - liked it, and so bought it. 9months old - £50. Bargain.
