Just what is an "essential worker"?

Sounds like a plan, may have to start using my work I.D for more shopping trips ?

It would cause more issues for me than it would solve .. I'd have to explain that honestly that is me.. I've just aged 17 years.. lost my hair and eaten my weight in crisps

We really need to update our passes more often

Serious question then. What does being an essential worker mean in terms of the lockdown? Does it mean they don't have to queue for supermarkets, can travel further or can just keep working?

Not the latter, anyone can do that. I'm not classed as essential but have worked throughout.

Essential workers could send their kids to school still, travel further so if stopped by police they would be allowed to continue if work related, get virus tested. There may be some other points but those spring to mind.

I’m finding certain companies won’t deal with you unless youre an “essential worker”, which although I repair the things that wash your clothes, cook your food or keep your food safe and cool doesn’t include me according to some companies.
It seems to include those digging holes in the road though for one reason or another....

Technically I was classed as an essential worker as during lockdown I was also helping draft wills and that was one of the classes of work in the legal profession that was classed as essential. What did it mean in practice, it meant I had a letter which I could show to the police if challenged as to why I was travelling. It also confirmed that our files are all confidential and have security requirements meaning that they could not be moved wholesale to my home. That was pretty much it If it qualified me for any perks I did not know about them and did not use them.

An essential worker is somebody who isn’t enjoying all this sunshine, time off and relaxing as they contribute to a functioning society and have meaningful jobs. Not bitter at all honestly. Honestly. :ROFLMAO:

As an essential key worker that the list now tells me I am, I literally had nothing to do today whatsoever, so instead had a wander over to the airfield and watched the Spitfires take off, then back to the sports field with a nice cold drink whilst watching them perform manoeuvres... Then came home at 1230 after doing not a lot but in a full days pay ?

Could get used to this key worker lark ?

As a key worker my time during lock down was much like my normal

I had a letter printed by my employer to show the police if stopped to say this person is a key worker call this number to confirm.

Supermarket wise there was no queue jumping but I never tried as I did click and collects

Was able to book my car in for a service as they were working for key workers only

The main difference for me was that because so many people were shielding at work instead of there being one or two overtime shifts a month going it was that per day. So I worked 3 extra weeks worth of shifts around my own shifts to keep the room going.

Key workers could also have their kids at schools however mine is too young so my wife is off work as she is a key worker but pregnant so they told her no coming in and basically work from home.

Been a strange few months seeing everything slowly go to ghost town then back to busy

Yeah that has been weird. As my office overlooks the high street I have seen it go from me being the only person walking down the street pretty much all day to today being a relatively busy market day.

What I will say is that I am feeling the strain a bit now as we have been working with reduced numbers and support staff and, having changed jobs, I have not had a day off since November last year and have little chance of taking one until we can bring more staff back from Furlough.

I am feeling more knackered than normal but that's lack of exercise combined with working more

After tomorrow night that's all my extra shifts done and dusted so this summer I am going to enjoy my leave and my rest days just chill out

I will not be answering the overtime groups call for help lol
