I've been sort of expecting it but now it's happened i feel physically sick!

I worked for myself a few years ago and although I enjoyed it, I hated chasing my money off (some) customers.

Sorry to hear that confirmed fella, I know you half expected it.

I'll put the word around for anyone who wants anything doing.

I hope you get something soon. :(

Really sorry to hear and I feel your pain Stuart.

Got called in to be put on notice of the dreaded "consultation" process last week.

I work for a charity and not surprisingly the backside has fallen out of donations and there are sweeping cuts across the organisation.

If as expected my department gets the heave-ho, they've at least said it would be November, so a few months to try to sort out something else I suppose...

I'm trying to look at it as a kick up the rear to do somethign different and make this a positive chnage.... but hard to see it like that with my Mrs on matenity leave looking after our little one and facing prospect of only having her statutory maternity pay coming in in a few months

One door closes.....be ready when another opens
Good luck

This ^^

I was made redundant a few years back having been with the company for 12 years, they moved and restarted the company so paid me no redundancy. If I am honest it dragged me down and I still think about it. I am deeply sorry for you and hope you turn it round fast. If I can help in any way I would be glad to.

That door is opening somewhere near you, good luck.

What is your line of work?

You are entitled to redundancy if the employer does not pay it then statutory redundancy.

Been done twice now... Most recently last September... Managed to keep going by accepting casual/contract work...

Starting back this evening in a 'proper job' just down the road in Park Royal...

I work in film which is a dying trade and I am way too long in the tooth to re-train for the digital revolution ...

Being an old git has helped on this occasion as they wanted someone "who knows their stuff" which hopefully I do after 40+ years in the business...

As has been said if you want work it can still be found... Might not be same terms and conditions but its work...

been made redundant a couple of times, its tough but take the positive out of it and see it as an opportunity to do what YOU want, plumbing is definitley still required and always will be, register with a few agencies for some temp/contract work and state you are available at very short notice, agencies need people who are available 24 hrs notice and you might get something more permanent out of it when your in work. The key is to make yourself indispensable.

good luck mate

Thats crap news, I got made redundant last year for the first time, fortunately I was close enough to retirement to jump the gun and retire a couple of years early. Must be awful if you are younger and have a fanily though.

Gas and plumbing mate, I'm sure I'll find something but ive always worked since I left school and went from one job to another.

At least you have a useful trade, you'll pick up bits and pieces to keep you going. Why not go the whole hog and set up on your own again?

Sorry to hear that Stuart. It happened to me last year and the uncertainty was the worst part for me.

Fortunately I had statutory redundancy to keep me going, but it still was a very uncomfortable feeling.

Stick with it, there is work there for people who really do want it.

Been through it twice. First time I was young and had seven years of service so a decent payout and the economy was good so not a problem. The second time about 6 years ago was a bit of a shock and I struggled (8 months) to get another job. Coming up to my 40th it wasn't even that easy to get temping work as most wanted school leavers to do all the admin roles. Got lucky with my current job.

Hope you find something before the fateful day and worth using the golf club as a means of networking as there are a host of occupations amongst the members and they can put the word out to their friends and contacts too

Thanks for all the replies fella's, I've got a few irons in the fire so hopefully something will turn up.

I've never been out of work and I hate not working(unless I'm playing golf or on holiday) because I'm a grafter.

I'd emigrate only I've got a young family who are very close to my parents who aren't in the best of health etc.

I'd probably lose a few ££££ if I sold up in this climate aswell.

BTW, if anyone in the north west does need anything doing, I can thoroughly recommend the big fellas workmanship.

He sorted out my plumbing - no problem.

Only joking, he did a job for me and everything was spot on.
