Our club held a charity day for the Childrens Hospital in Crumlin today.......More so for the Juniors than the adults but a great turnout all the same...There was a Parent and child competition as well as a Junior Competition....As my lad is only 5 he's the youngest junior but wanted to play off their tee's which are about 3/4 of most hole distances......He played with two other lads both brothers of 7 and 11...Really nice kids.... So i lobbed my bag back in the car and set off with these 3 at about 3 o clock.....

Ended up calling 5 groups through but it didnt phase them...Took a smidgen less than 3.5 hours to get around 9 holes and i was blue with the east wind that was blowing.....They just belted away and enjoyed each others company.....
Its a part of the game i love seeing....There is seldom a better picture than seeing their faces light up when they knock one down the middle or chip one in from off the green.....They have a no fear attitude which id love myself and generally just enjoy the walk around.....

I gave the elder lad one tip of leaving his SW in the bag when there is no need for a high shot....Just to use his 7 iron with a putting stroke....He left it stone dead for handy pars on 4 holes.......I think it became his new go to club....He couldn't belive how close he was getting it to the hole....

All in all though i enjoyed the walk with them...It was an experience to say the least:smirk:

Awesome! That's your new Sunday morning job then, junior assistant coach!

I can't wait for my lad to take a proper interest in the game! I am banking on him loving it to get me out on he course more!

My 4 year old loves coming down to the driving range and has even been to watch me having a driver fitting where I got talked into buying him his first junior clubs. He got to have a go while being filmed and it made his day. Now I can't put the clubs in the boot without him banging on the lounge window wanting to come with me. Can't wait until he's big enough and can hit it far enough to have a go on the local pitch and putt.

Thats how it starts Pal.....

Was watching three wee lads out with the pro on friday. Great to see and they looked like they were having a ball! Something that my place seems to do well and has (seemingly) a lot of kids knocking about during the week.

My daughter was a 36 handicap 8 year old when she played in her first adult/junior on an away course with me.
I had concerns that she could manage 18 holes for the first time.
I played great and she did remarkably well.
After about 14 holes I even had thoughts of winning.
She had a 25 foot putt for a par on the 15 green. She settled down and suddenly stopped and looked up and laughed. Daddy, look at that little lamb over there.
We did finish OK and we were just out of the prizes.
The Captain was a work colleague and made a special prize for her.
The best score by a junior under 3 feet 6 inches. which she collected to much applause.
Magic day.

It never changes Kid

My son just passed 30 and I still love it when we get the occasional walk round, he's still my little boy even at 6ft 4!

Miss playing with my dad and never did it enough. Hoping to adopt in 2013 and so there may be a chance for me to introduce someone new to the game at some point (depending on how old the kid is when we adopt). Would love to give them all the sporitn opportunities my parents gave me.

We had a dwindling junior section but the club and the assistant pro are working hard to encourage new juniors to join. They can be a big positive for the image of any club as well as arguably providing the next generation of members and I hav a lot of time for junior golf. When I started as a junior we had to order our food and drink from the back kitchen door and weren't allowed anywehere near the bar area. We had to eat it in the snooker room or the locker room if members were playing a frame. I'd like to think things are a whole lot better these days
