Guys, I’m just after a bit of advice. I’ve been playing a lot of golf this year. Previously I have only played maybe once or twice a year for the last 15 years or so. Needless to say my game never improved any in that time. I have been getting better over the summer and have been playing with a couple of friends who are of equal calibre to my good self. To put you in the picture I’m doing well to break 100 on a decent, long course. We’ve been regularly playing on the municipal courses once or twice a week for a few months and my game has improved a good bit. Honest!!! We have a good laugh and I don’t really feel out of place with them or on the courses.
My problem is that I want to join a club to improve my game. There’s one just up the road from me that is doing a cracking 18 month deal at the moment and I’d be a fool not to take it up. Basically it has two courses and the joining fee and first year’s subs are half of what they would normally be. I want to improve but my predicament lies in leaving behind my current golfing buddies to start at the club because for varying reasons they can’t or won’t join. A few of my other friends are members at this club but I feel guilty and embarrassed at asking them to take me round because they are pretty good golfers and I’ll be struggling to break 100. They have their own networks of friends there and I feel like I’d be impinging on them and possibly their golfing buddies. I don’t want to play on my own, as I enjoy the company, but feel I would benefit from the perfect greens, better facilities and better golfers.
My problem is that I don’t want to look like I’m hacking my way round and where I feel comfortable just now it will be daunting meeting and potentially playing with quality golfers. How do you guys feel about people who aren’t that good playing on your golf courses and sometimes playing within your 4ball or whatever? Will there be people there of a similar standard to me who just want to improve at a steady rate?
