John Terry - Guilty

Forgive my ignorance on the matter.

But.....

If he has been cleared in a court of law, how can he then be charged, and found guilty of the same offence by the F.A?

Or am I being thick?

Why not 8 game ban like saurez received??

Absoloutely pathetic.

Foreigner gets done for racism= 8game ban

England legend (used loosely) for the same crime with more clear evidence receives half the sentence....

For what its worth I believe to some extent Terry is a 'victim' [in a small way] of what is becoming a real problem in football... That of constant verbal 'sledging' [abuse] of your opponents to seek an advantage... Surprised its taken this long for this sort of 'issue' to raise its ugly head...

I thought exactly the same!

Looking at the details though also suggests to me that what Terry did was much worse than what Suarez did but he only gets a 4 game ban?

One rule for one and another for another is what pisses me off about sport. Makes it look so bent its annoying.

The court of law decided that there was "reasonable doubt" that Terry had racially abused Ferdinand as Terry's defence was that he only repeated the words that Ferdinand used to him. The FA have a ruling that any use of racist words are banned and that Terry had sworn, on oath, that he uttered those words - so in effect - he hung himself with the FA

If that is the case that Terry only repeated what Ferdinand had said to him is Ferdinand not also guilty of making a racist comment then? Going off the FA rules?

I was going to say that but wondered whether you can, in effect, racially abuse yourself?????

Well, I think it was always bleeding obvious that he had used racial language, and that is essentially what he has been banned and fined for. Sounds like a fair call to me.

The legal case on racial abuse probably required the higher legal standard which involved more "intent" and that is more difficult to prove.

In my opinion anyone who calls someone ' a black [insert descriptor of choice]' is guilty of racial abuse.

Not sure whether the racist comment would have to be directed at someone for it to warrant a ban or not?? Its just crazy from the FA that its got to this. If he has racially abused him as they say though surely it should be a lot more than a 4 game ban. Joey Barton got 12 for violent conduct FFS.

Just sums up the FA for me, useless and dodgy.

So its perfectly OK to call him what he did just don't add his skin colour to the insult....

Well, it is the reference to skin colour or religion that adds the racial or religious element. there are obviously some therms which have a racial element without any reference to skin colour. I think some of the Chelsea players heard some the other night.

so to describe Barack Obama as a great black leader or Vijay Singh as one of the best black golfers ever, as examples, would be racial abuse? or it just the fact that its an insult without the skin colour reference that makes it a racist comment?
