I never appreciate the John Lewis ads as I am a somewhat miserable old cynic. More of an Aldi's Kevin the Carrot sort of person.

I am more pissed that every flipping ad I see on tv is multi racial, multi gender (all 86 of them), and trying to avoid any insult to anyone.
Why not have an ad with a black familly, one with an asian one, one with a caucasian one. It's the black dad, white mum, chinese kid ones that piss me off, edpecially when one of the familly probably the vhinese kid is a ginger scot.

... And yet it is to celebrate a specific Christian festival!

Lidl were genius!!

Also Tesco was bang average, until the end when santa admits to having been on holiday with a dodgy tan!

This is possibly one of the most pathetic things I've read on here.

There are lot of not very Christian people out there who are seemingly offended by seeing people with different colour skin on TV. Not very love thy neighbour is it.

Especially since Christmas is just a pegan festival hijacked to celebrate the birth of a character from a fictional book, who would most likely be a person of colour.

Well, justify it then, instead of just posting rubbish.

If you bother to watch adverts, and take your blinkers off, you will see that pretty much every single one is fully multicultural, fully gendered fully age neutral, and designed to avoid any complaints about non inclusivity.

They do not reflect life. At no point have I said that there shouldn't be ads with any particular race, gender, age, whatever, it's just the continual practice of being scared to offend. If neccessary, film the same ad with differing casts, or better yet, accurately target the demographic that actually buys your products.

For instance, a huge number of mini SUVs are bought by old people, because they are easy to get in and out of. The grey pound is a known thing, so there is money to be spent. But the ads are all for young families, because they are more photogenic. Sadly, alot of them are not in the market for a new car, as money tends to be tight.

You are the one posting rubbish. I think it's pathetic that someone can get angry about seeing people who look different to them on TV.

I don't watch TV with adverts, so I couldn't tell you who is in them.

Surely the point of advertising is to attract people who don't already buy your product or shop in your shop? So why would you show the demographic that already does? Wouldn't you show the demographic you want to attract?

You have missed my point. Whoosh. It's not about people looking different to me. Every body does anyway, I am unique, as is everyone. Its about trying so very hard to be inoffensive that it is very noticeable, and unrealistic.

As to your last point, no, the best people to target are the demographic that buy in that market. Creating a market is much harder.
