Thecraw playing like a complete and utter tit managed to stumble into the section final of the Volvo Matchplay championship tonight thanks to 2 birdies in the last four holes from an inspired JJF69 who bailed me out BIG time.
A tough away game at Cochrane Castle in Johnstone Renfrewshire, was tonights venue againt a 13 and 14 handicap duo was no mean task. A 1600 tee time was always going to be tight light wise and this proved to be the case when the match went to extra holes. Indeed from 15 onwards the light was starting to make club selection difficult.
2 down with four to go, 1 down with three to play, 2 down with two to play, 1 down thanks to an awesome birdie two at 17, level after 18.
Onto the par 3 19th in rather dark conditions,probably unplayable however all four of us were in agreement that we wished to go on. Thecraw and JJF69 both found the green and closed out the game with a regulation par 3. Infact it was the first hole I was in since the 15th!!!!
Without making excuses both of us were under the weather tonight and not on the top of our games however JJF69 managed to raise his game at the most critical of times, the shots he hit into 17 and 18 were class, absolute class and a joy to watch.
Cochrane Castle was in superb condition and the two lads, Brian and Davie were two of the nicest people that I've ever met in this type of competition, they were a joy to play with and can feel very hard done by having run into JJF69 with the bit between his teeth!
Haggs Castle away in the final, team GM are still hanging on in there!
