Thecraw playing like a complete and utter tit managed to stumble into the section final of the Volvo Matchplay championship tonight thanks to 2 birdies in the last four holes from an inspired JJF69 who bailed me out BIG time.

A tough away game at Cochrane Castle in Johnstone Renfrewshire, was tonights venue againt a 13 and 14 handicap duo was no mean task. A 1600 tee time was always going to be tight light wise and this proved to be the case when the match went to extra holes. Indeed from 15 onwards the light was starting to make club selection difficult.

2 down with four to go, 1 down with three to play, 2 down with two to play, 1 down thanks to an awesome birdie two at 17, level after 18.

Onto the par 3 19th in rather dark conditions, probably unplayable however all four of us were in agreement that we wished to go on. Thecraw and JJF69 both found the green and closed out the game with a regulation par 3. Infact it was the first hole I was in since the 15th!!!! :o

Without making excuses both of us were under the weather tonight and not on the top of our games however JJF69 managed to raise his game at the most critical of times, the shots he hit into 17 and 18 were class, absolute class and a joy to watch.

Cochrane Castle was in superb condition and the two lads, Brian and Davie were two of the nicest people that I've ever met in this type of competition, they were a joy to play with and can feel very hard done by having run into JJF69 with the bit between his teeth!

Haggs Castle away in the final, team GM are still hanging on in there! :D

Well done, lads. Good going. Sounds like a fun game to have been involved in...or not in your case, Crawford.

P.S. I thought the Regional Final was gonna be at Turnberry. Turns out it's Barassie!

Thats the Brittish Final I think, not the national final.

Whats thecraws match report fails to mention is the 5 holes in the middle of the round where he either won or halved to keep us alive with some quality up and downs from tricky positions. A massive mistake by myself on 16, (taking 4 to get down) from 20 yards short of the Par 5 was almost fatal but we dug in and managed to sneak through. Thecraws tee shot to 20ft on the 19th hole really put the pressure on and was the decisive blow at the crucial time.

The two lads we played were top blokes who I hope we might get another game with in the not too distant future.

Another tricky tie awaits us at Haggs which will be our 3rd away trip on the bounce.
