I like him, he does it his own way. Everthing about his swing is technically wrong, apart from the 6 inches either side of the ball where he somehow gets the face of the club square to the target every single time.
Also from yesterday have now got a lot of time for Stewart Cink. The way he joined in with the banter with the crowd on the 1st tee before his match with Rory was great, as was signing autographs for the fans afterwards with a beer in his hand! Finally the way he supported Hunter Mahan in the press conference was also first class.
Yeah, good guy. Nice (almost British) sense of humour when being interviewed. Irony, he gets it. And one of the few in the US team who could point to Belgium on the map, I'm guessing.
He made the effort to go and wait at the scorers tent for Rory after he came off the 18th green at Quail Hollow to congratulate him and shake his hand. Decent bloke.
I've liked him for many years mainly because his swing gives hope to golfers everywhere. Even last week when he won obscene amounts of cash he was pretty humble. He always comes across as a likeable guy and he actually get's British humour which puts him above 99% of his countrymen
I like Furyk and Cink and Fowler. In fact, I warmed to many of the US team.
But.
TW disappointed me greatly. Not with his golf - that was superb! But, I honestly thought he was going to use this tournament as a bit of a PR exercise - win the American public over.
You say that but I saw something at the Ryder Cup that I thought I would never see ever…
After he had been thrashed by Westwood and Donald on Sunday, he followed the next group up 14 and then crossed over to 11, without body guards, snipers on the roof etc. Just him!
And then not only that he shook about 5 or 6 peoples hands and was… wait for it…
SMILING!!!
For me these unseen (to most) action really has made me re-warm to Tiger. I do think he is trying to change, but it is not in his natural nature, so it won't be a quick transition.
