I love sci-fi and fantasy films but for some reason I've never seen Star Wars. Not even five minutes of it.

Thinking of diving in but haven't a clue what order they need to be watched in.

Can the GM collective enlighten me?

Where have you been for the last 40 years???

Personally I’d watch them in the order they were made & miss out the phantom menace and attack of the clones. Don’t miss out rogue one !!

Weirdly in the build up to this week I've met several folks from diff countries who've said the same

Agree, watch them in the order they were made, disagree on missing any out, watch them all. Enjoy

Nearly watched one on our "duvet day" last month. Luckilly our 5yo grandson woke us up at 6am so I was shattered all morning so only saw about 30 minutes before nodding off. And that's the most I've ever watched. I also missed most of Jimmy Newtron as well.

Not having seen any star wars deserves an infraction. Only being allowed back on the forum when you have seen them all. 😁😘

Watch them in the order they were made to get the continuity of intended story - Episodes 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3, 7.

Yes 1, 2 and 3 are a noticeable drop in quality but they're decent stories in their own right.

Episodes 4-6 , well made
Then 1-2 not as good bit boring in parts
Episode 3 found this interesting tieing up ends before 4

Then 7 , decent enough return
Rogue one. Brilliant movie

Watch in that order

This. You have to watch the others even if they are poor. The good news is that despite Haydn Christiansen's awful acting and Jar Jar Binks the latest films are back to Star Wars at its best.

Original 3 are great. The rest I feel have just been milking it.

Original 2 are terrific;) , improved in the 90s to incorporate some cgi.
3rd one - questionable - those teddy bears in Return of the Jedi really really let the whole thing down imo, chief villain the Emperor was good in it though.

My daughter and her boyfriend were in this position - over the past few weeks they have binged on every film watching the last one to be viewed in time to go to the cinemas to see the latest.

Personally I have watched everyone and was glad to see Rogue One return to the type of film that the first one is.

Given that they are based upon the books there is a logic that says you should watch then in order of the books for story continuity but I think watching them 'as made' does not detract from the experience.

I'm another one who hasn't seen any of them. In fact, thinking about it I haven't even been to the cinema since 2000.

Even if you don't like Star Wars there can be some great things to see at the cinema. Hugely diverse offerings and going can be great fun. Try it. Mark it as something to do in 2018.

Another vote for watching them in the order they were made.

Episodes I, II and III are generally very average but provide a decent back story to episodes IV, V and VI so are of interest in that regard. I don't think Vader and the Emperor would be such effective villains in A New Hope onwards if you knew their back story the way it was presented in I, II and III and in some respects those three provide spoilers that I think would detract from the enjoyment of the original trilogy.

VII is very good if a tad nostalgic and, as others have said, Rogue One is a great film in its own right.
